$5,000 exchange for a 13 spd + I imagine ~$3500+ for each chunk. I'm going to wait until it's time to do the clutch then I'll change the trans and go from there.

I have a KW and Conestoga with an accert. I'm right around 7 mpg. I run a lot of 70 mph (1380rpm). I have 22.5's, a 10sp (I believe with od and 9th is direct drive?)and 3.25's. It can be tough to run 55 (under 1100rpm) in 10th with 80k, usually I'll drop into 9th. I seem to get better mpg anyway. It pull most hills pretty decent. If I'm grossed out and have a twisty right before the climb like WV, I just grab 9th right away. I can run 65 mph just shy of 1500rpm in 9th.

My BXS is dated 04 on the tag. The truck has a Aug 04 build date as well,.. but registered as an 05.
I was quoted $8500 to switch to 3.25. After that,.. I didnt bother finding out what a 13 spd would cost as I want both,.. else I'll keep tweaking my current set up. I'm up to 6 mpg for the most part unless I'm in the mountains and or heavy.

Your doing much better than me. I'm up to high 5's low 6's for the most part. Depends on terrain and load.
I'd love to get a decent cruising speed running 1400 RPM. How are your gear throws with that 3.25? 24.5 wheels on tall rubber will put me close to what a 3.25 ratio would be like with 22.5 LP's I have now. I run 70 a lot when I'm empty. But if I try 70 - 72 when loaded,.. I pay for it at the pump. 70 - 72 mph nets me around 5 - 5.2 mpg.
My truck is currently in the shop getting some body work done. Soon as it gets out I have a generator/AC set up I'm going to install to cut my idle time down. I believe I could see 6.5 mpg with reduced idling.
I punch it a little before a big hill. Then just ride it up and try not to down shift if I can help it. Seems to work well. Most of my fuel improvements are from changing my driving habits.

It seems forced dispatch, one day off per 7 days worked, and all the dispatch BS you need is the world Generic lives in. I know not what course others may take, but I do know I'm making quite a bit better net income as an I/C than I did as a company jockey.
Something I see all the time is: company drivers will quote their annual income as W4 income, pre-tax. O/O & I/C drivers more often give us their net income. A different type of bookkeeping, yes, but if you subtract road costs and taxes from a company drivers' net income, you'll get a different annual net takehome number...... different, and smaller. Not saying, but I wonder what Generic takes home per year, because his remark is so far different than my own direct, personal, and recent experience.
