Post 5 - did you look at the link?

See page 45 of the PDF - 2 yr is the maximum if the driver meets all physical qualification standards.

A DOT physical exam is valid for up to 24 months. The medical examiner may also issue a medical examiner's certificate for less than 24 months when it is desirable to monitor a condition, such as high blood pressure.

Make sure you are going to a certified doctor.

You are not required to see the same doctor, but any you see must be certified and on the list.

To qualify for the machine the basic standard is 5 times in an hour you must stop breathing. My wife just did this test for her snoring. She had 3 times an hour. The DR. said she was close but the minimum is 5 times an hour.

So do I have to go take a sleep study, or get a doctor to evaluate me if I have to take one or not?

Luxury of the VA? I learned a long, long time ago the joke that is called the VA. Sure, there are some locations that do ok, but the vast majority are a total joke. You want it when? is their motto. My first thought when the other poster mentioned the VA would do the sleep test, was that if in fact they do approve doing the test, the driver better get started applying now as it will take almost the full two years to get in to have it done.

As a medically retired veteran from way back, I learned a long time ago to just avoid government health care and just do like everyone else. Been a lot better off because of that decision. Luxury of the VA?

Just a thought crossed my mind. Since docs now have to be on a "certified" listing with the DOT to do transportation physicals, it begs the question if the sleep study people have gotten the names of those docs off the list and then propositioned them with kick backs if they recommend sleep studies, knowing the driver has no recourse but to get one on that recommendation at the "discretion" of the doctor. Just rambling musings about these issues.
