I don't see it happening for the simple reason the general public won't want to see a huge truck driving itself down the road .. Imagine what fox news could do with this ...

Been in a lot of RR yards owned by CSX, been in a conference room of CSX Corporate in Jacksonville. I can tell you from personal experience trains are becoming driverless little by little. Trains with flashing beacons in the rail yards are already fully remote control. I guess a man giving a honest day's work is limited? Sure I'll be dead and gone when it looks like the cartoon the Jetsons.

Autonomous truck I will not see it in my life time, so I don't care about it. What I do care about is all the regs that force us to be more of a slave than we are now. One more year I'm done.

What we're going to need is more "Terminators", not more drivers

Captain Cancuck's comment is true for so many driving conditions. Excellent impact.

Personally, I wouldn't mind sitting there across Wyoming/Montana in those vast open stretches letting the truck drive itself. Of course, nobody will want to spend the money up there, ever. No people.

I like what Bandit said. What's with this "driver shortage" BS? If there is actually a shortage, wouldn't that drive competition among shippers for power, and thus drive prices upward? I wonder who's behind that? I like the way Road Dog is in full support, but I don't respect it. Sometimes I get the feeling I'm swimming in corporate conspiracy and BS. So most of the time, I pick up and deliver on time, listen to my satellite radio (When Radio Was) and stay in my own patterns.

Automated vehicles are probably coming, but they have a huge list of obstacles to overcome. It will be a long, long time before it happens in any noticable way. Specialty patterns, sure.

Aftershock says "Technology - nothing stays the same for long any more." It's been a long time since "anything" did stay the same for long. Since the advent of horses we've been on a faster and faster ride. (nice pun, don't you think?) That's our world, and we can't go back. So, movin' on.

But is it an automatic or a manual? Lots of old drivers say an automatic will never work, despite major fleets quickly switching over to them. They are working on trucks with no human driver at all, and there are still guys around arguing that an automatic won't work. Wake up and smell the coffee lol it's not 1977 anymore.
