So it has been a few yrs since I have driven a 13 speed. I'm not concerned with upshifting, I know the pattern and shifting process. My question is when downshifting. what are the speeds for gear recovery. For instance on a 10 speed it is as follows,
Gear/Speed
1/stopped
2/4
3/6
4/8
5/10
6/15
7/20-25
8/30-35
9/40-45
10/50-55
Can someone tell me what these speeds will be for a 13 speed? Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately there's no set answer for this as there are too many other variables. What rear end gears does the truck have? What size tires? Is it a 13A or 13B transmission? Most will say don't shift by the speedometer, shift by the tach, but even this has variables depending on exactly what engine the truck is equipped with and how it's set.

Lots of variables. For gear recovery and downshifting you won't use your upper gear splits. Just gently rake the gears till you get a feel for it. 1-4 will get you to 15mph. Splits will be about 200rpm, and full gears are around 400rpm. I prefer the 18 to the 13, starting out up a hill can be a challenge. I'll wrap up to 2000rpm and catch second gear at about 1100 rpm. Most people don't seem to realize you need to hold your rpm for a second for a smooth shift, and wait till your completely stopped before switching from first to reverse. Or if your coming up to a light in 5 low, come to full stop then shift back to first, and you won't need your clutch brake.

This is a good question. And I don't have an answer for it. I was hauling a load of cream on 99 south one day and while getting on the freeway I lost my gear and couldn't recover. Haha, that was a hell of a trip. I hate those 13 speeds

If you're still rolling at speed with the splitter in high it's pretty close to the same gear position as a 10 speed on my truck. 20-25 is 7th on a 10 speed, 5 hi gets me pretty close to the same etc.

Try missing a gear on a hill with a 5x4 or better one day.‘Olhand Thanks this.

Holy crap! Someone actually drives like that? Way to many variables to set by the speedometer rules for shifting with any transmission.ronslam Thanks this.

I agree, it is a good form of reference that gives you a better idea of where you need to be. Im not a huge fan of the grind it till you find it routine. Nothing is perfect, reference only.

Done it, with a 6x4. Immediately went for a lower hole on the main, got it back in gear and started walking out of the basement.

Remember always move the button, either one, before you move the lever.
