Where do the RICH Kanucks, with urgent medical conditions, go for the best heath care?

    Yep, the USA.

Where do the RICH Americans, with urgent medical conditions, go for the best heath care?

    Nope, not Kanuckistan.

Some of these debates are just too easy. Like takin' candy from kids...

Before I get mis-construed, I will say that free heathcare (oxymoron there, lol) does have merits on the surface. But us here in the states who beef about free healthcare only do so because we know our gubbermint will just #### it up.

We have a cost containment problem here in the states. Kanucks have an access problem (long wait).

Need middle ground. It'll never happen though.

You have not one single iota more choice when it comes to drugs than we do. There are many experimental drugs out there that are not legal yet. More testing etc. You have no more access to them than anyone else. As for people buying private insurance. Our plan does not cover everything. Dental for example. A lot of alternative type treatments are not covered. If you want you can buy insurance to cover you for these services. You cannot buy insurance to cover your basic medical care. This is provided by the government. Most Canadians live within an hour or so of the US border. If they want they can buy insurance to cover them there. How many do? Very Very few if any.

I have a very large circle of friends and family. In the last 40 years you know how many have gone to the USA for medical care? One did. My uncle had a heart operation in Cleveland. It cost $150,000 He could have had it done here but chose to go to the US. So what. I have two family members that choose to go to The Slovack republic for some medical issues. So what it's totally irrelevent to any discussion about universal health care.

No, it's not totally irrelevant to the discussion. It proves the argument. Why did your uncle choose to go to Cleveland instead of Toronto or Montreal or where ever else in Canada? Probably because of the waiting list to see a heart specialist in Canada. Maybe not, but who knows.

And your argument that because very few people you know haven't came to the states for healthcare is weak and doesn't mean that Canadians aren't doing it. If that were a valid argument then I could say that since no one I personally know owns a BMW, then BMW's must be junk vehicles and no one should buy them.

Access to experimental drugs is controlled by money, Period. I can access the same drugs that are "not approved" so long as my insurance or myself are willing to cover them.

Legal or not, they still need approval for use in a Government provided environment.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm. Such as Canada forcing doctors to either accept ONLY private insurance, or public insurance patients. Not both, as the majority of countries allow. That's included in the link as well.

My heart really goes out to you. Many in this forum would say that it's your own fault somehow. You must be lazy or a bum or something like that. You know and I know that is nothing but a load of crap. In a just society this would not be a problem as in a just society we care about all the people rich and poor employed or not they deserve basic human rights and health care is one of those.

    woodstock36 and Cybergal Thank this.
