Unidens are no better or worse than Cobra radios, I have been running cobra radios since the 70's and never had a problem, as far as antennas can not go wrong with Francis 5 footers, durable, talk well, no tuning, affordable.

Jericos in Bakersfield is a very ggod shop

iirc the francis antennas are continuous wound, or loaded, meaning the wire wrapped around the fiberglass whip is wound in the same sequence all the way up, and does not come back down. It would basically be useless if it did, because it would not add any physical, or electrical length to the antenna itself.

They are. Maybe the shortest ones go up and back down, but the 5.5' does not.

Hard to beat the cobra 29 classic (none of the nightwatch crap) in IMHO... Very particular who touches mine. Old man in Dodge City Ks set my radio up yrs ago (shop been closed forever now it seems).. Per his advice I use Francis sticks.. I also use an Astatic mic... Just tuned, peaked, talkback, echo is all thats been done so very little spent. Could out talk all my friends Galaxy's unless they dumped a load of cash in them. Sure I cant split the channels but never needed to... I just hope the old girl still works after living in a coleman cooler for 9yrs..lol
