If you want older go with paccar with 60 series 12.7 Detroit 2001 or older. can't go wrong with one these. If you go new a new glider is the only choice. All the rest are junk. Run from that 2008 Mack all trucks 2006 to 2010 are emission nightmares. They get a little better after 2010 once they add DEF but a lot of maintenance cost for emissions. I to had ISX cummins nightmare that just about broke me.

sorry to hear about your mother my dad just passed and i am in the same boat everything on hold for the moment. my condolences to you and your family.

the price sounds ok on that 09 but i am scared of emissions myself. aftermarket warranties are often times not worth the paper they are written on. i guess it comes down to how mechanically inclined you are and how likely you are to fix the small problems that crop up on a old truck yourself. personally i would older pre-emissions or newer with remaining factory warranty

Maybe you should read the Schneider threads.
Those guys run mostly new Freightliners and they don't complain about breakdowns.

some times in life things sound to good to be real i called the dealer and he told me the truck went to the auction because it was a repo and had been in 2 accidents he then started to sell me another truck on the phone i just hung up once i knew who he was.. he sells nothing but old junk he offered me a 89 freightliner that was his newest truck.....what a looser......

thanks for the FYI in aftermarket warranty's..

So i am back to looking at 2000-2003 maybe up to 2007 trucks...as far as being a mechanic yes i am, I can totally rebuild a truck i would do everything with the exception of an engine or trany rebuild i could R&R the engine &trany no problem but would have the dealer rebuild the engine or trany just for the warranty..

Regarding the years 07 and older Cats will keep you away from the EGR. I was in the same boat as you when shopping until I talk to a few owner ops with old and new trucks and one advice that stood out to me was a guy with a 99 freightshaker said " I'd rather spend $1500 a month in maintenance and stay rolling at oppose to having a truck payment with a new truck and losing all that down time". Another bit of advice with a older truck is once you replace or repair everything then you basically rolling in a "new" truck. Better check @double yellow thread or @blairandgretchen thread. They got old trucks and doing pretty good

I just read blairandgretchen's post and found out a lot of info...i am probable going to do the same thing only i would be able to do most of the repairs myself...(i like the T2000 he bought ) that would be one of my choices or a pete 387 same truck....i will now look at double yellows posts.....

What if you put say 60 down on a Fitzgerald glider and you finance should not be too bad. Still leaves you with 20 for start up coasts.

Or he could buy a truck for $25k which would leave him with $55k Capitol and no payment which would benefit while he weather the storm of being in the fire of owning a truck. Even if he spent $30k his first year he'd prob have a fully rebuilt truck with...... No payment.
