I guess I should have added that we are both employed, but my job does not offer it to per diem employes, and my husband just found a job, but will be switching again, it is normally 90 days employed, and he is through a temp,so its never with them.

You know it's very easy to look at any kind of system and find all kinds of problems and weaknesses in it. But you have to look at things in perspective to get an accurate idea if the system is working well or not. Yes we do have waiting times and I hope that those wait times will come down. But the perspective I'm talking about is what were things like before socialized medicine was brought in. I can tell you this that things were just about as bad as they can get. Waiting times, HA, how about no medical services or hospitals within hundred of miles from where you live. The great majority of the ordinary people had to go to the chairty ward if they were so unlucky to have a major sickness. DR.s didn't get paid for a large portion of their work because there was a lot of sick people with no money. It was a bad system and it did not serve anyone well not the DR's or the sick so we got rid of it. Very simple it did not work so we try something else. Thats rocket science by the way

So you want socialized medicine in the US? Okay, great. Now tell me one aspect of socialized healthcare in which the US Government did a great job in handling. I was in the Army. No good there. I've never been to a VA hospital, but according to everyone I know it's no good there either.
Let's look at some other things the government has control of and see if they're any good.
The US Postal Service.
If they were as good as private companies, would we even have a need for companies like UPS and FedEx???
The Internal Revenue Service.
Any fellow US citizens here think they've done a good job handling your tax dollars??
The US Congress.
Need I really say more????
It kills me that people think that socialized medicine would be beneficial to anyone here in the US.
Just because it works in any other country does not mean it'll work here.

We DON'T have the same problems. Ours are being caused by the 30 million PLUS illegals that are destroying our hospitals and emergancy care units. That we MUST by law, provide free care to.
No business can sustain itself when it loses this kind of money.
Here is a positive article "supporting" illegals and their use of our medical system.
You can sugar coat this any way you want. But the math is there. 30 million times $1139. I'll even GIVE you 60% off. And say that only 40% use the "free" services offered to them.
12 million times $1,139 = $13,668,000,000 What industry in Canada can sustain those types of loses?
I'm not about to support the criminal element of this country with tax payer subsidies. And thats what they are...criminals. Nothing else.
Can we send them to you guys??? -
I agree with you in just about everything you say. We would be in big trouble here if we had millions of illegals in the country. Also I realize that you have big problems in the civil service in the USA. The government is never going to be able to deliver the services it needs to as long as patronage, pork, and corruption are not eliminated in the public service. You Americans have a very different view of politicans than most Canadians have. We tend to view them as a necessary evil and they get no special treatment or status. In the US however they seem to be allowed to screw the public and get away with it. Crookedness and underhanded dealings are accepted. Complete crooks that are known by everybody to be so are elected to office. Look at the case of Richard Nixon. Here was a crook that every one knew was one that was elected to the highest office in the land. In Canada when pols. are shown to be crooks they are done like dinner. The people just won't put up with it. The law won't put up with it and the Mounties are going to fry your butt if they can. The political parties can't put up with it if they have any hope of being elected so known crooks never get nominated to run. I just don't understand how the American public can put up with so many sleazy pols.

The difference is in the publics expectation of the character of their leaders. We just had a case a couple of weeks ago where it was exposed that our Minister of foreign affairs had had a girlfriend who was once married to a member of the hells angels. Shouldn't be a big deal right. I mean it is his own private life and not really anybodies business. Well the reality of the situation is that Canadians begin to wonder about this mans judgement, if he should be in a position of such power showing such a lack of respect to his office and the public. In two weeks he was gone, his political life is probably over and I don't feel one bit sorry for the guy. We must hold our leaders to a very high standard and if we don't we deserve the crooks and selfserving political bloodsuckers that we will surly get. It seems in America anyone with great political power is imune to the laws of the land. If some senator is proven to be on the take to special interest groups nothing can or will be done about it. Look at the case of watergate, the FBI had all the evidence that Nixon was running amuck breaking any number of laws but because of political interference they were unable to do anything about it. I agree that tricky did a lot of good things as president but that is far from the point. We are supposed to be countries where the rule of law is supreme. We can not survive as free societies if there is any class of person that is above the law because of their position and power.

Tricky Dick is ancient history, why not cite someone more recent. You cite as an example, someone who is anonymous to the people of this country unless they have a penchant for studying the civil servants of our northern neighbor. We don't really care how you deal with your politicians, why do you care how this nation doesn't?
Getting back to the original thread, your nations health care system doesn't allow adoption of better alternatives for treatment when they exist, they use the same excuse that experimental treatments are not part of the formulary that are used by the insurers that keep the lid on price by not allowing treatment, those people that benefit, and we all will benefit someday if these new treatments become commonplace, have no thanks for those who would deny 'experimental' treatments.
Health care is available in Canada at no cost, but that also makes the wait longer when everyone with a minor problem heads to the Doctor. I ask another question, how do the mental patients in Canada get treated? Are they afforded good care or are my Canadian friends right when they say treatment for mental illness is not good in Canada? -
His position is equal to your sec. of state. Not just some civil servant I would say.As for the debate on universal health care I'm done on that subject. Too many lies and misrepresentations. Too much blindness to the truth and reality of things. I willread on the forum everything that is written about the subject but I am done I have said everything that I have to say on the subject and I have nothing more to add.
