I need help identifying a noise. When I turn my key to the acc position I can hear what sounds like a whining sound coming from what sounds like the front of the engine (could it be air escaping somewhere?). I don't think that it has anything to do with any belt driven components seeing as how the engine isn't running at this point. I also want to say that it's always been there, only now it was noticeably louder when I had my hood open (doing a pretrip). Any ideas? Thanks

Probably your fuel pump.
-
does the noise increase when you rev the engine? or when you go faster??
Not enough info.. -
315, that's hard to determine. My engine is pretty loud when running. The noise I'm describing gets drowned out.
-
I agree with icsheeple if the engine is not running then the noise is probably the fuel pump.

air supply line to fan clutch (purple 1/4 inch)has small hole in it.

I agree with @QUALITYTRUCK. Probably air line to clutch fan.

Quick question, if it was the air line to the fan clutch wouldn't I hear air escaping regardless if I had the key on to acc position? The noise stops as soon as I remove my key (off position)
-
No, when you turn the key on it activates an electric solenoid

It is not the fuel pump on an S60, they are mechanical. If it were an ISX, I'd agree that it was the fuel pump, but it's not. I'm leaning toward an air leak at the fan hub. Turn the key on and when you hear the noise, unplug the fan solenoid. You'll hear a quick burst of air that will engage the fan. If the noise stops after that, you have a leak in the line or fan hub.
If the fan hub itself is leaking, pull the belt and see if there is any bearing play and that it spins freely and smoothly. Often a leak is caused by bearings overheating when they start to fail, which damages the seals. You do not want to chance the fan going into your radiator, so check it ASAP.mgrantes Thanks this.
