When was there ever a decrease?

There have been people digging thru the garbage for food for 40 years, that I can remember. Not all of them are "poor".
-
This is so true! I went to highschool in Miami, and every weekend I'd go down to the beach. Every weekend there was the same man asking for money on the same corner. One weekend I stayed later than usual at the beach, when I was driving back home I saw the same man getting into his Cadillac Escalade!

About 10 years ago we owned a furniture store in a not so great neighbor hood next to a Walgreen's
The beggar's never bothered our store
But they hung out around the Walgreen's
One ingenuous guy showing a gas can and pointing up the block to his family in a car
Wanted gas money, when I volunteered to take him to buy gas
He got upset, being it "messed up his plan"
I will almost always give a buck
Giving to the poor is an biblical standard, but not a rule!!!! -
Now that is an original, I wounder how stupid they think we really are LOL!!
-
"Think" we are or "know" we are?
In reality we are the ones who pay them or they wouldn't be there...... plain and simple...... but I don't think we are stupid, just caring.....

I can tell you hundreds of stories about people asking for money at gasoline stations while I was there unloading. One of the best was from my boss. He was unloading and this guy walks up with a gas can and asks for money so he can put gas in his car . Of course his wife and kids are in the car just down the road. The guy sets the gas can down and goes inside the store. My boss feeling sorry for him grabs the can and climbs up on the tank, opens the dome and dips the gas can down in the gas to fill it. Then he sets the can back down for the guy. The guy comes out and says what's this. My boss said it's on us. The guy gets mad and says he doesn't want the gas and pours it out into the flower bed and walks away.
We had stations were there'd always be some people out of money and wanted to wash our windows. Some drivers would take the chance and let them do it but I never did. I was always concerned that they would fall and then come back at us. However, being from Las Vegas NV I did see alot of people that were stranded and I could tell they needed help and I would help them. Sometimes I'd give up my lunch to someone I knew had not eaten in a few days. But I never gave money when someone asked for it. I'd just show them the door where it says "Drivers carries no cash". But yeah I can see that there are scams at the truck stops and I think the owner should run them off. -
I had a couple once at the Petro in Atlanta ask to clean my wheels, and said sure how much? They replied 30 so stupid me gave it to them and went in side to eat. It started to rain and when I returned about a 1hr later, the wheels were never touched. Needless to say I learned a lesson and never paid a head only when the job was complete
