I was contacted recently for a pretty decent paying union job, but I need Hazmat endorsement. They said as long as I am in the process I will be considered and interviewed. Anyway what is the process? Do I go up to DMV and fill out something or just study the book, and go up one day and test? I know there is a fingerprint deal, and background check that cost 90 bucks here in NJ. I'm not talking about that part. Do I have to go to the DMV and fill out something today, then take the test, or just study, then go up when ready? I'm just a little confused as to how to start the process. Is there anywhere online I can download the portion of the book I need for Hazmat instead of getting a book from the DMV?

If you go pass the Hazmat test you have started the PROCESS..

I hear ya, but if it takes that long I'd say they are gonna go with someone else. I'd say my chances are quite low if I won't receive my Hazmat Endorsement for 45 days. See where I'm going here? -
Most companies understand the process. Depending on the company they may or may not want you. Some, the better ones, will take you if you are a good candidate . Then they will notify their dispatchers who, knowing you dont have hazmat yet, will dispatch you on only non-hazmat loads. But if you dont get it within areasonable time, like 90 days (as this is usually the trial period before you become perminent). Actually go for it, all they can do is turn you down.
