So today was surreal. Last night I got the preassignment going from Vandalia to Beaver dam Wi (thanks again DFO). Got started this am, got to first drop and things are looking good - Lowesbhas an MT and my trainee didn't take an hour to couple. Head out the gate and get a message that I'm going to relay in Indy instead of Obetz so they pull the Beaver dam load. An hour later they switch the relay back to Obetz and assign an MT. Ask for the Beaver dam load back and get told it's gone already.

Got to Obetz 4 hours later and I spot the MT - HOLEY CRAP! IT'S STILL HERE quickly turns to despair when I notice the red tag. Look at the DVIR and the previous driver had written up the defects when he dropped it last night. No other MTs, about to send in the message when a driver unhooks and calls out that I can have his as he's not leaving until tomorrow afternoon.
Get a pre picking up in Vandalia going to Chicago. Guess who I met there - the driver getting the beaver dam load whois running thru the weekend.

Incompetent guards take 25 minutes to get the correct paperwork (losing one seal and breaking another in the process) so I punt and head to the J down the street as I'm down to the nitty gritty on the 14 even though I know it's going to be packed. Sure enough, no spots and no fake spots either but I have no time left. Pulling into.the fuel island to try and find someplace else, guy behind and one spot over pulls out of his spot. Blew my trainees mind by tossing it in reverse and snagging the spot before any of the other circlers could.

It wasn't a bad day, just weird.

Thought I'd share some stories about my recent experiences.

First off, last week I had a nice little run in with SEM. Dropped a load in Indy (basically Plainfield by the airport) and grab an empty trailer. It was early morning and overcast skies. Pretty dark, pretrip looked all fine.

Go to my first stop at 9am. Get 5 pallets loaded, no problem. Arrive at the second pick up stop at 1pm. By this time it's bright sunshine. Back into the dock and about 5 minutes later guy comes out refusing to load "food grade" loads in my trailer (microwave popcorn, OMG). So I come inside to look what the fuss was about and noticed the sheet metal had separated from the frame and popped out of the rivets. There was a decent sized dent at the top corner and a decent amount of light coming in. Needless to say, had to call SEM about fixing the damage.

Talk to the first SEM representitive. OK, I'll get a call back. About 45 minutes later I get a call back. The witch on the other end of the line proceeds to start questioning me about everything. First off, the first person got the trailer number completely wrong (TAxxx214 vs. TAxxx424). How she got the number off that much is beyond me. So now I get the second witch talking down to me like I don't know what trailer I actually have and keeps saying I have the incorrect trailer number instead of the actual number. Whatever #######.

She then proceeds to ask me about the damage. I stated to her that based on the damage "It looks like someone hit the trailer". She then states I have to drive 60 round trip miles to get it repaired. I argued against that as to why I should pay out of my own pocket to fix their equipment. She stated that I got a defective piece of equipment loaded at the first stop so now I assumed responsibility for the repairs. Fair enough, and I agreed that she was right.

Anyways, next thing she says is "you need to speak with the insurance department to file a damage claim". I proceeded to ask why, and she said you have to do it. So she transfers me over to INS department and I just hung up because I wasn't about to pointlessly wait on hold with them since I needed to get the #### trailer repaired so I could salvage my day.

Next thing you know later that night I receive a message stating I need to talk to INS department ASAP. Whatever fool.

Next morning I receive a call from my ICA. She's asking about the accident I got in yesterday and why did I not call up accidents like I was supposed to. I then proceeded to explain the situation and how preposterous this all was. I then had to speak with accidents and make a statement about what DIDN'T happen.

So basically the ##### in SEM reported an accident to Schneider and stated to them that I told her I hit the trailer and caused damage. Moral of the story is don't tell these fools #### because they'll screw you over.

On a lighter note, I delivered to Frito Lay in Sterling Heights, MI two nights ago running pseudo DFO hours (rolled in there at 2am). Its the food grade warehouse that has multiple nesting birds living amongst the boxes of chips and various other food grade items. I'm sure the health department loves that, although Wayne county Michigan probably gets payoffs to overlook that kind of stuff. Park all the way in the back of the place thinking I was smart. Nice a quiet, right. Good nights sleep, right?

Well, at around 8am I'm awoken by a loud screetching sound like some major power equipment is being used to cut the grass or something. But that must be some major grass with the sound this thing was making. After about 20 minutes of this ridiculous crap I had to take a look out of my window to see what was going on. Turns out some yahoo's were basically drag racing what basically looked like an Abrams Tank or some kind of armored personnel carrier on the driveway behind me. I was literally 20-30 from the #### tank when it was flying at top speed. Then they'd reverse it back, and do it over and over again for about 30 minutes. WTF LOL.
