Did you have too pay for your training up front, and then they reimburse you? I really want to attend Swift school, but the whole problem is I don't have 4grand sitting around the house, if I did I would not be looking for a career change, you know?

Check their website. You are responsible for $150 sitting fee and your meals for the 23 days. They recommend $150 for your meals. You then sign up for 13 months (I believe) and they take $37.50/week out of your paycheck.

Check the website for more info It's all explained there.

Ya know, I worked for swift for several months. On the up side, they kept me moving most of the time out of the Phoenix terminal. But most of the loads were to California. Then, most of the loads were back to Phoenix. Approximately 60% of the loads were drop and hook, which is very good, of course! On the down side, alot of the live loads and unloads were at difficult docks, with a substantial amount of dock waiting time. Another down side is the outdated HHG system of paying by the mile. They ripped me off for at least 20% of my miles by this old method. A tip for you drivers considering working for them; if you do a local run for them at almost any of their terminals, you WILL get a good, longer milage load out of them! It worked for me 99% of the time. Good luck to all you newbies! Stay safe!

Hello all.. Is there anyone in or near Virginia? Im a newby and Im considering Swift as well. If I do decide to go I will be going to orientation at the Richmond VA terminal. I already have my CDL. The only thing that I am not feeling right now is their start off pay, which is .26 per mile for OTR. Then after 2 months it should increase.

Also for those who just started training, how's it going?

OMG!!!! They are still just starting out # 0.26/mi?!?!? Thats what I got started out at when I started with them in '02. As far as it going up, it will after a few months. I'm not sure, but we used to get quarterly increases...or maybe it was every 6 months. I dont remember.

i havent been told i would have to pay anything other than the 150 for sitting fee and extra money for meals not included,,,they cover your room and board and bus ticket to get to the location for training and when you go for your orientation.

This is just a question but if you have your CDL why choose Swift other then a terminal there are a number of other company's out there as long as you have been employed under you CDL. I am not bashing Swift as I drove for them 11 years ago just wondering thats all:biggrin_2558:
