Before I pulled a reefer I used to really dislike when one pulled next to me. I would always put earplugs in so I could goto sleep or move.. When I started to pull one it was totally differnt, the dang thing would put me right to sleep..

I try to keep my reefer on cycle sentry mode in order to save fuel unless BOL requires continuous mode. The reefer is no louder than a truck engine idling. Im like the other driver, the running reefer motor puts me right to sleep. Parking spots are hard to find at night so I take what is available. I have just as much right to a parking spot as any other type of combination vehicle.

no you dont.....go park in the noisy section of the lot and not next to our quite tralers!!!shesh man im tryin to sleep!!
ok im being a bit antogonistic..... -
Reefers don't bother me, I can sleep through anything. What does bother me though is when they drop the trailer and then go park bobtail in another spot. It's hard enough to find a place to park without people taking up two.

I don't mind parking next to a reefer, but I usually tend to park away from anybody if possible. The sound isn't that bad, especially if it runs constant and not on/off all night.

Thanks to the Drivers that gave me their input. Being conciderate of other drivers trying to get some good rest is my concern. Parking in the midst of other reefer Drivers or off by my self will always be my first options i'll look at. When thats not an option I'll try some of the other suggestions mentioned in the first few posts. Continuos run/cycle is another option I can use If I have no choice but to park with the flatbeds and dry boxes. Also not parking with the TK right next to another drivers sleeper ie backing in alittle deeper into the space or pulling up alittle like was suggested but that would be my last resort.
Thanks Again Drivers

C'mon Bronc, That reefer is no louder than a tractor engine idling. I still hear plenty of them idling at night even when it is nice outside. Apu's are at least as annoying as a reefer because they are nearly as loud and start up and shut down intermittantly plus their exhaust pipe is usually down low allowing for fumes to enter the sleeper parked next to it. I really get annoyed when a bobtail takes a combination slot at a crowded truckstop.

It's only a matter of time before California and other states start getting complaints from citizens about APU noise. Then the enviros will get them banned just like idling. After all, it's noise pollution. So the goin' greenies will bit@# about that too. Just wait and see. I'm surprised the enviro-nazis haven't banned reefers as well! But then, they couldn't stuff their fat, stupid, politically correct butts full of munchies!

hell i wake up at night during my home time if i dont hear it running

girlfirend gets pissed off at me when i jump up to see if there is a green T outside the window
in all honestly, there are some real BAD reefers out there but most of them are pretty quiet. If its an empty lot or i park early for some reason, i park away from everyone or next to one with its reefer running. im sure he'll apreciate the noise thank you very much

Me:
Lights off when puttering around in a lot.
Lights ON at a shipper, unless otherwise directed.
I drive (now) dry van. Training, was a reefer. Always tried to find a place either alone (ha!) or near other reefers.
Except once. 4-wheeler with short camper trailer parked in a truck stop rig-slot. Not only did I park with the reefer next to his little home away from home, I turned it on. Intermittent.
If no reefer co-location space is open, though, sorry guys, get used to my snoring.
