    Well, surprise, surprise. I did, in fact, just now talk to one such guy parked across from me. He looked at what I have (17 lumber pallets, 2700 lbs each, loaded pretty much front to back, 2, 2-high layers with one exception) and said I have two choices: wait for Monday and have the shipper adjust or run illegally.

    Oops.

    We all know this. I just wanted you to look for advise outside your normal peer group. I want drivers to talk to seasoned experienced drivers. Do not limit yourself to the 30 day rookie that thinks he has all the legal by the book answers.
    I am sure the driver you talked to has been in your situation. Did he give you any of his experiences with loads such as yours? Did he tell you what he would do? Would he be waiting at the truck stop?

    Added: He also said the people who loaded it must have been brain dead to put that much weight that far back with such a heavy load; he'd never seen anyone put 5,400 pounds on the whale tail and leave empty areas in the middle of the trailer. I told him it was late Friday and the forklift driver didn't seem all that concerned or careful. However, this is my first lumber load and I had no idea how bad it could be. That won't happen again.

    I don't care if another driver would run illegally or not - that's up to the individual. I won't and it has nothing to do with me being an inexperienced flatbed driver. I am compliant by nature; much of it comes from a 40-year career in commercial aviation, including a 27-year career in another USDOT regulatory enforcement agency.

    To me, "by the book" means something because I know how and why safety regulations are written.

    DenaliDad I wish you well.
    I was trying to add another perspective to things. I am probably done with your thread.
    I have 30 years of truck driving experience. I have a spotless record. I could get a job most anywhere.
    I have always made a good living driving a truck.
    I would have ran your load. Am I the only driver in the world that would have ran it? No I am not.
    I am an honest truck driver that is willing to take a few risks to get the job done. Does that make me a bad or unsafe driver? I know of several shippers, receivers,current employer,and past employers that think I am a pretty good driver.
    Do I think you should have taken the load? No. You can not afford the risk.
    It is just the difference between our world. Best of luck to you and all the other drivers on here.

    Not to harp on the situation or be a backseat driver, but no one will ever lose their license over an 800 pound overweight ticket...Hell the company I work for pays any overweight up too 2,000 lbs. They do not go on your CSA. Just a heads up is all. Do not mean to put anyone down

    Well, not to sound brusk, but you don't know whether I would lose my license or not; nobody fully knows the details of my situation or the ramifications of citations because I haven't shared any of that on TTR.

    Not that it would matter, but my company doesn't pay overweight tickets. Besides, for me, the issue is one of compliance. But it's a moot point now. Tomorrow is Monday and I will get the load rearranged and make the trip. Legally.

    And they do go on your PSP.

    I do not know all of what was going on or exactly how its loaded.
    I will ask if you waited about 5 min after releasing the trailer breaks to allow time for bags to fully fillup I have see drivers that release and roll on the scale within just a couple and be over on rear but then reweighing be under or right at. I have once adjusted trailer ride height and it shift almost 500# off the rear.
    I pull many different trailers here just as you will and each one is different. some take just a couple min to get to full ride height and others as much as 15 min.
    just something to think about in the future.
