    So Grasshopper exactly how long have you been driving?
    And here you are giving criticism and advise to all who will listen to your whiny expectations of this trucking industry, who gave you a shot because we all know now that you told us:

    "because companies will hire almost anyone with a clean MVR and DOT physical. I'm a prime example of that."

    I do believe you are a prime example of that. And to you grizzled old story tellers out there keep hammering out the truth as there may be one or two in this constant new crop that will listen without being bored, and learn from those who have come before. Thank you for your wisdom and guidance. And Harleydudd well- thanks to you too. Your whining makes me smile.

    The guys that used to ##### about deregulation and the death of the rate book . Best reply I saw a driver stand up from his coffee and say - not one of you spoke up to oppose it , because you figured you'd squeeze a higher rate , you weren't smart enough to CUT your rate before the others

    I wouldn't go that far. But it is nice to connect with other folks who may be in the same boat.

    That's a never-ending battle for everyone, even those of us with step-children.

    which is why this old timer never tells a newbie to suck it up because if the job sucks up front it most likely will not get better this -bull puckey about staying at a crap job for a year to pay dues is insane, now here comes the old guy part back when I had dark hair it did not take much to p!ss me off and I would quit and have another job in a heartbeat moving on is almost always better than staying at a place your not happy its bad mojo

    That's all well and good, once you're qualified to get another job. I can promise you the good jobs aren't even going to look at someone with 2 years experience and a half dozen jobs. Job hopping indicates one of two things: Either a problem child who isn't worth the trouble, or someone who just can't hack it. Starting out, you need to show some stability if you want anyone worth working for to look at you.

    Well, back when I had those kind of issues I was working in the construction trades, and co-workers were usually to blame rather than the company.

    Not surprisingly to some, grown men can be very childish amd petty when faced with someone with the potential to "upstage" them so to speak.

    maybe we should agree to disagree you say can't hack it I say won't take it and I think the problem child banner should only be waved after multiple firings not for quitting, now for the mega's yeah they need that info because their gonna misuse the guy just like his last job and if his history says " won't take it " they can both save the wasted effort

    Gotta agree with you. Plus it also shows a person did their research, homework, due diligence and found a company they could put 2 full years with. Saying I job hopped because I didn't know I was getting into bed with a bunch of sharks isn't a good enough excuse. When I started out I knew I was going with a company with older equipment. Did break downs completely demoralize me and make me want to quit? Not really, I had a desire to learn how to deal with breakdowns because I would face them as an owner op. I wanted to know how to deal with a breakdown on someone else's dime. See how they dealt with it. I wanted to know how to deal with a stubborn trailer. I wanted to know how to recognize issues. I didn't complain about an old junky truck because it was the same kind of truck I was planning on buying in one short year. Funny though, I think my $19k FLD is way better than that $25-30k??? International 9400i I drove for Core.

    In my first year at what some would call a terrible company. I learned how to
    bypass an air dryer
    deal with a blowout
    slide stubborn tandems
    bang frozen brake drums apart
    splice an air line
    open a panel on a reefer and look around for loose wires. I don't haul reefer anymore but sometimes you just have to look around and check for simple problems like the wire on an alternator coming loose and faulting the reefer out.
    ETC ETC They had some pretty old equipment.

    The list goes on and on. Point being you have to understand your getting the experience you need to be proficient in a top tier paying company.

    These guys waddling around in flip flops complaining about their companies wore out equipment are just a joke in the industry.
