i am not sure on the 2 year deal. but i know people who got swindled into signing 5 year deals with swift. yeah i couldn't believe it either. i see your location is rockford? are you in school now? there are companies that have a training program set up. CCX runs a doubles program out of chicago and i believe they are opening a terminal in lasalle. get your doubles and tanker endorsement. if star is opting a leave with no hard feelings meant deal. than i would do 3 months and move on. from what i have seen you can get a job after that in a lot of places. the other option is TMC if you have a clean record and don't mind some extra labor. they offer .32 cpm or 23% off the bat and after 30 days solo you cna m ake up 50cpm or 33% of load. most take load. but be warned about them. they are very strict, but worth the bs. let me know.

I am about to go through MTC in Paducah Ky then on to Star was told a 14 month commietment. My plan is simple(I have extra 1400 a month untouchable income ) So I plan go to star Do what is required to satisfy the School payoff. Then evaluate my treatment by Star and act accordingly.

I drove for Star straight outta school back in 2001. I left the company on bad terms with the personnel department, and let me tell you what.....I'm still fighting with them and all the false reports they put on my DAC. Star will *%## with you anyway that they can! In my opinion stay as far away from Star as possible. If all other companies are the "same" then there should not be a problem finding another one!!

Long and short Star Stinks -
I have a buddy that has been at Star for 10 years or so and he has a good income and good miles. But he also has 10 years there. I'm not saying this is a good company or a bad one either. I wouldn't drive for them if that tells you anything. There are better companies out there for newbie's. But as far as newbie's go your options are very limited. If you need a company to get you your license you should have to sign some kind of contract. If you don't want to sign a contract go pay the money and go to school. Even if you do the latter you are going to have a hard time getting on with a good company without experience. Your best option is get your license and stick it out and get at least 1 year of SAFE driving under your belt and go else where. Got to start somewhere and you won't have to do it again.
