One thing that you forget is this is a business and in business there is expenses that are not avoidable. Using the excuse of distance in recovering property is lame, just fly into the nearest airport, take a cab over to where the truck is, get into the truck and leave. If he has personal stuff in it, when you get back home, box it up and send it to him. Don't play games, don't stoop to a level where this is a revenge game, just make it all business and leave it at that.
If you have issues, like he is trying to get the truck back or what even call the cops, tell them what's going on and do not confront him, let them deal with it. If he files for unemployment, just fill out the form, explaining he was terminated and that's all. Don't bring in any other ideas of him stealing unless there is absolute proof that you can bring to the cops and file charges. Also don't hold back his pay, just pay him and move on.59halfstep and cnsper Thank this. -
well he cant file unemployment he has been employed since the end of march so not enough time in.
as far as labor laws there practically non existent long as hes not a minor Louisiana law says you can fire an employee for any reason and you don't even have to give a reason.icsheeple Thanks this. -
Who's cell phone?
And misc expenses such as these need to accounted for in the cpm. This is the type of stuff that shippers, brokers and many new business owners do not account for when they ask "How can it cost $1.80/mile to run a truck?" -
yeah if you need a job pm me lol

in my part of the world o'reilly sells truck coolant and many truck parts like alternaters filters and such, and walmart also carries delo, mobile delvac and shell rotella in 5 gal buckets plus coolant for heavy duty trucks, but still get rid of him. let me guess, when you hired he had a sob story and he needed a job bad???? now you see why he needed a job

You've had your share of winners recently. I hope the tide turns for you after this gets settled.

Red you and I and skate could go get the truck and bring it back for him. We are all old they wouldn't mess with us
maybe we get a recovery fee or a reality show -
I do surly really well. I can make kids cry with a hard look. I learned it from my granddad.

IF you, for whatever reason don't want to face off with him, just have him drop the truck at a repair shop close to his house for "repairs" instruct the shop to keep the truck gated or blocked in till you get there, pay them a storage fee, neatly package his stuff on the curb, and leave with your truck.
Now of course he will say you fired him which means your unemployment rate will take a hit. But to me, getting the equipment back undamaged would be the 1st priority.
Personally, I would just drive to his place and meet him at the door, I have had to do that once myself.
