I'd say 5%-10% of what I do is oversize, I'm with an independent company now but used to be with one of the larger well known companies. That larger company had a link to a quoting system accessible by agents for the company. Sure, I can still call an agent with that company and have them quote something for me, but I'm looking for something I can use on my own. With the larger company's quoting system you just put in the origin, destination, dims, weight, and it would give you the routed miles, permit costs per state, if you need escorts, city and county requirements............With that being said that's what makes me think there has to be software out there to purchase and use yourself. I mean it would spit the numbers back to you quick, unless it was a super load, in that case someone at the corporate office would route and rate it. So I'm still reaching out, someone has to know something. Thanks for the advice thus far.

Soooo many variables. Detours because of construction? How much will your highway patrol escort costs be (usually don't know till after its done), how many utility crews are needed and how much do they charge...
Bottom line, too many things that could never be figured into a program.

Still looking for something if anyone knows of anything. I realize all of the variables involved, looking for some sort of software to at least provide state permit costs. I have the 2015 Oversize Reference Book, it's a good guideline for different state requirements, but nothing in there about rates.

Like the others have said, I don't think you are going to find "an app for that". OSOW is (mostly) all I do. I quote my own loads & get my own permits (no service). It's a lot of time & work to plan and quote, the more you do it the better you get. Most everything is an irregular route (not a lane), so every load is different on both ends- in between is fairly easy. The Western Regional permit book has rates for the participating States (no local) but even that is out of date.

I don't know how the rest of my tribe feels on this: OSOW broker load "permits off top" or "+ permits"?

Thanks for the input RGN, I know there are always variables, I drove for 26 years, been doing the freight agent/broker thing for 3 years now, I was with a Nationally known company (think blue star) and they had an internal quoting system, which is why I continue to think that there is some sort of software out there. It wasn't always accurate, sometimes way too high, sometimes way too low, but that was on the linehaul part, the permits and escort fees were closer to accurate. I'm at a smaller company now but don't want to bother others for quotes, would rather do it myself.
