    Interesting, NO !

Misleading ? Very much so. While groups like the KKK have highjacked the flag as their own. And states such as Missouri have banned all state flags which (still) include it. 77% (black and white) of the one remaining state, more or less gave MO the middle finger. And voted to KEEP the Stars and Bars within their state flag.

The TRUE historical significance is more important than pleasing a bunch of whinners, who could find better things to do with their energy. Than sow seeds of hatred.

Modern historians, hate groups, and the "politically correct" have made it the symbol of racism.

It was never designed for, nor intended to represent racism or hatred.

If you look to southern California. "Select" groups now see the Stars and Stripes as a symbol of racism and hatred. How long before it's a nationally accepted belief?

I'm not saying that this flag represents anything in particular. I am sure it means a lot of different things to a lot of people. The fact is that there are a lot of people out there to whom this symbol represents racism and hate and the days of slavery. To these people the flag is an offence.

In your previous post you also said the flag "should have been buried along with the cause it represented". Which leads me to think you had an opinion of the flag without a proper knowledge of what it stood for. I don't doubt for a minute that a lot of people find the confederate flag offensive. But they are doing so out of ignorance. I fail to see how people being offended because of a lack of knowledge makes the flag wrong.

That is definately sending mixed messages to the kids today. My father in law hung a confederate flag from his garage, till the day they moved to Florida. He was born and raised in West Virginia. I never saw a problem with it and as far as I know no one ever said any thing to him about it. In fact I believe he also has on on his truck. Why on earth would that be a problew, they teach the kids in school today, that the war had nothing to do with slavery, so why would it be considered offensive? :biggrin_2551:

This whole race issue is friggin' tiring to me. I have friends from different ethnicities and different beliefs to include those who are Libs.
When are people going get past the b.s. and remember that only one thing truly counts in America...You are an American period.:yes2557:

You are right and I had not considered that this flag could mean something different to many people. That'a the beauty of debate. You can sometimes see that the other guy has some good arguments and that maybe your own opinion needs modification. In fact sometimes you can come to the conclusion that your opinion is just plain wrong and it was based on faulty info. or prejudice and all kinds of other reasons. That's why I have always said,"I reserve the right to change my mind."

    In the news today !!

Protesters intend to disrupt Flag Day celebrations in select cities in America. Inviting people to bring ANY flag other than the American Flag, as a symbol of protest.

Citing the American Flag represents racism, hatred, and war mongering throughout the world. And, these people call themselves Americans.

It didn't take long for that to happen after I posted a comment suggesting it could happen....did it.

Round them up. Tell them they can pack their bags and go live with Arabs if they hate their country so much.

Except their despicable behaviour is explicitly protected by the Constitution. They've got so much freedom, and this is how they show their appreciation. *sigh*
