I hope I can word this right so you can understand it. I asked my husband but he couldn't explain so I could understand it. Ok here goes. My husband told me that he has 11 hours he can run on Tuesday, and only 3 1/2 hours on Wed. On Tuesday we won't need all 11 hrs because we will be at the customer. He will have approximately 4 hrs remaining on Tues log in which he can drive. Since we won't need those extra 4 hrs on Tues why can't he roll over those 4 hrs and put them on Wed log? That would give him 7 1/2 hrs to drive on Wed.. Our appt time at the customer is at 10:00am. He told me D.O.T. won't allow him to do that, how come? Thank you so much for your answer.

ok this is gonna be fun to try to explain. a drivers hours are an accummalation of the previous 7 days of work used. and that is why it is important to keep a recap on hours. this is harder to explain than i thought. i can say it but typing it is different. easiest way add up the previous 7 days hours and subtract that from 70 and that will be the hours for tomorrow. to find out weds. hours guesstimate hrs tomorrow then do the same and that will give you a rough idea on weds how many hours you can drive. this kind of thing comes up when a driver drives less than 8-9 hrs a day because a week later those hrs come back to you and if you only get 3-4 hrs back some day then it can take some planning ahead to make surethose hrs don't hamper you from making money.

Thank you. My husband said you explained perfectly. And now I understand as well. He told me to tell you that you explained it just the way he tried to but couldn't get the words out lol. As you probably figured out hubby and I aren't a team as far as driving wise, but I do the mapquest and the communications with the DM, and he does the driving part. If you ever see a John Christner truck (JCT) no. L1491G, don't be shy and say hey. We're changing our truck in a couple of months and I'll post. Other people want to know it as well lol. Take care Jack and you be safe out there.

Frosty said it about as good as can be done, remember that the DOT doesn't have all of the answers, either, I have met a few that really knew their stuff, but far more that didn't, lot's of them are state patrol wannabes.

The 70 hour rule is mostly about keeping anyone from working too hard, it averages up to 8.75 hours a day you can be on duty. If you are on more some days and less on others, it averages out. if the first day of the previous 7 only had, say 2 hours of the 70 on duty, that means tomorrow you would get back only 2 hours, conversely, if the first day of the 7 previous had 14 hours on duty, you would get back 14 hours tomorrow when that day is no longer counted.

The best $100 you'll ever spend is on "Drivers Daily Log" software and you'll be able to 'see' what's HOS are available at a glance.

I will just thank everyone in one post. Jack.Frost it can be especially tricky for me since I'm just the wife. :( I may not be able to help him with the driving part but I do the business end with his DM, the qcomm, and mapquest. 25(2)+2 thank you for a little more explanation and your funny comment about the state patrol wannabes. Boy isn't that the truth. Put a badge and uniform on someone and they think they took over God's work. Honor Roll, thanks I will contact her if anymore questions. lol I'm sorta new here and I just thought that was her username :smt105. Chicadriver I saw that program and talked to hubby now I have to bust his male ego to get one. I think it's a wonderful idea. I guess I'll just have to take the credit card and get one . You all take care out there and be safe on the road. This is a wonderful place to go when you need help or just to vent. My husband has more stress than me being the driver. Thank you all again.

    Sincerely,

I am not sure if I am reading some of this correctely! It could just be me and I am hot and tired :(. Look at the pink above! I guess after reading you are trying to guestimate, but guestimating that way doesn't sound right, but I could be wrong! :biggrin_25521: I am confused :biggrin_25523:

To get the hours you have available for tomorrow without doing your recap.
