We have a 2014 vnl d13 with 225,000 miles, it's been in the dealership 3 times previously with error code for insufficient pressure def pump. They've checked all the wiring, replaced the sending unit and updated the software. Truck is once again on the side of the road derated, and off course no one is open until Tuesday. Every time this has happened the deff tank has been around 3/4 and filling it usually resolves the problem. Hopefully filling it works again this time, but wondering if any one else has had this issue or similar. Thanks

You said you have a code for low pressure Def or loss of prime?
Do you know if someone inspect the little blue filter
(100 micron element) inside of the suction (plastic fitting) threaded in the Def pump ?
If that filter is OK and your system is not sucking air on suction side (run a test with a clear hose) you probably end up with a new Def Pump.(my opinion)
Benbrianw123 Thanks this. -
Thanks Ben for the response, according to Volvo action service the code showing is for low pressure, I'm not sure if that filter has been checked or replaced but I will definitely have them check that. Once again filling up the def tank got the truck up and running, but it only took 2 gallons to fill it.

Brian, the fact you add Def in the tank and solve the problem for a short time possibly means it sucking air on the suction line when the Def level is high a less vacuum is require by the pump to feed the pump as soon the def level come lower the vacuum increase .
To check this we run a test with a clear hose and a hand vacuum pump to check if the clear hose stay full when we stop to pump with the hand pump.
Hope this can help.

Truck went into the dealership last week, they had it for a couple of days and found a small leak in one if the def lines, they're hoping that solves the problem but didn't seem super confident, we'll see what happens.

One of the DEF lines in the tank or suction side maybe?

What was the fix? -
Need to test pump pressure with PTT to isolate issue.
