I'm up in Canada so things might work differently here. I started in the oil patch. A lot of the patch companies will hire with no experience, you make good coin and run half decent equipment. They also have set shifts, 15/6, 21/7 or whatever so it guarantees home time for the kidlettes. Other than that I'd say mom and pop operations up here seem to pay the newbies the best.

I delivered south of San Antonio a while back and the guy I delivered to knew a DOT officer who said they catch two or three drivers a week without a CDL working for the oil fields. This was before the big price drop but it would be worth it for a legal guy to check them out. There are many other types of oilfield jobs that require a CDL as well.

Look at Systems Transport. They run regional out of TX and he can be home most weekends. They also have a very good training program. Also try Melton out of OK, I believe. They both hire new grads as long as the driving record is good (No DWIs, not more than 1 speeding ticket recently, etc). Pay is as good as you'll find anywhere for a new driver at both places. System I know does a good job getting you home on weekends if you're regional.perssy01 Thanks this.

I would agree with most posts here. Your hubby might have to spend some time with a big OTR company like Swift. Or, perhaps a beverage comany. Some of the perks to the beverage jobs is that your hubby will be home everyday. If he keeps his nose clean and gets a year under his belt with a clean MVR his options increase exponentially. I lucked out and went from driving school to driving tankers Haz-Mat and have been doing it for almost 30 years. I've been an O/O for the past 19 years. Experience and a clean MVR is every drivers ticket. I was (curious) looking at some job postings and couldn't find one job that after 29 years I wouldn't qualify.
His first job might not be his career job, but the experience will pay dividends later when he looks for that career job.perssy01 Thanks this. -
This ^^^^^^^^^^! Look local, take notice of all the trucks on the streets and record the company name, then apply. Pay by the hour, possibly overtime, home each night, benefits...HalpinUout and perssy01 Thank this.

That's good advice. If this gentleman is in good shape and doesn't revolt at physical labor... Pepsi , Budweiser, US FOODS , etc will provide an excellent income and get him home probably every day.
BUT it is hard work. It will keep him in shape and TIRED. He will adjust to the strenuous labor unless he's just lazy. If the home time (ie babies&wife) are important, and trust me ,THEY ARE, thus route should be investigated.perssy01 Thanks this.
