Haha I guess that's what some guys must be saying cuz stuff is getting hauled. But I've also seen some of the iron hauling from lumber yards. Some of it looks like they made their last truck payment in 1988 and haven't repaired or washed it since. That's the only way I can figure how to haul that cheap...or not paying yourself I guessSheepDog Thanks this.

Three brokers sitting around, 1 say I bet I can move this load for1.35 a mile the next one says I bet I can move it for a buck a mile, third one laughs and says I bet I can get the trucker to pay me for the privilege of moving the load.
villageidiot, Skygod, SheepDog and 1 other person Thank this. -
Many of those cheap loads in Canada are going to the U.S. There is pretty much nothing in Canada so you end up dead heading back. Many of those lumber loads can sit and wait until a large carrier like TMC or someone else needs to get a truck out. The carrier would rather get $575 then nothing at all and will take it. Chances are the broker will up the price another $200 or so.
I did two loads up to Anchorage Alaska. Both long runs from the Chicago area for the Navy. There is NOTHING coming out of Alaska to the states. They ship everything by towed barges back and forth.
I got $2.00 for all miles. I got that to go up to Anchorage then dead head back to the Washington state plus another 300 miles into the state where I could get a decent load out.PSUMoose Thanks this. -
Yeah I know the loads going to the US were cheaper for reasons you said. Lots of American companies looking for a run back.
The cheap one I was quoted today was a Canadian load from Alberta to Manitoba directly from the lumber mill....no 3rd party brokers. So even inter-provincial loads are not immune to the cheap rates. I knew lumber wasn't great but his offer really took me off guard. -
WOW!........

As the economy just stumbles along, and we enter the summer doldrums,I wouldn't look for much on the horizon. As said, more trucks than good freight, supply and demand.I've owned my own truck and trailer since 1974,been driving since the 60's.There have been times when I wished I owned 10 trucks, and there have been times when I question the sanity of even owning one.We are closer to those times, jmho, fwiw.Glad I'm mostly retired, just driving a few days a month anymore.Be safe.
SheepDog and Skate-Board Thank this. -
Lumber is always cheap. I won't haul it because it's to heavy and to cheap.
You guys voted for this great economy and now you got it.Skygod, Canned Spam, SheepDog and 3 others Thank this. -
all those trucks that are idle from the oil fields are going to flood the market for a available trucks
SheepDog Thanks this.
