How much hours need a mechanic to change a OILCOOLER and when he do this job is the Oil to change,I changed yesterday my engineoil
-
easy to do four bolts on the bottom (2 for each port) and remove the front neck. the hard part and time consuming part will be flushing the oil out. wont need to change oil unless there was antifreeze back flowing into oil when shut down. I never had that problem though. there are 5 O-rings and a neck gasket to replace when it is put back together also. two on the front, one on the back and the two for the ports. you can do it yourself. the flushing part I use two 5 gal. buckets one cup of dawn per bucket make sure the water is very warm, dump them in the radiator and run to operating temp let the fan cycle a few times (30 min average) and drain. pull a plug from side of block or rear cooler neck and drain also. unhook heater hoses and drain then run water through heater hoses with a garden hose until clear. you may have to repeat all this a few times to get the oil and soap flushed from system. time consuming but doable.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

How did he determine that?
Did he change the water filter and see some oil in it or something? -
I WAS IN THE TA ,I WAS DOING A PM SERVICE,AND THE TECH WROTE THIS ON THE REPORT,HE
WAS LOOKING FOR THE COOLANT'S CONDITION, AND AFTER HE TOLD ME THE COOLANT HAS SOME OIL INSIDE, I DON'T HAVE A CLUE ON HOW HE WAS DOING THE TEST, I DON'T TRUST THESE TECHNICIANS AND FOR THIS ISSUE, I WAS DRIVING HOME TO FIX THIS SITUATION IN MY SHOP WITH MY TRUSTED MECHANIC -
The reason I asked was I've seen a many a water filter that had what appeared to a be small amount of oil in it without any problems with the truck what so ever. Trust is why I asked. You can't trust people to tell you the truth in the trucking game.
I have had a cooler failure on an ISX and it first appeared to be darkening of the coolant and you could see the oil on the cap. It will kill the seams on the plastic water tank too. The cooler is actually quite easy to change if you have any real mechanic skills at all. The hardest part about the whole deal is getting to it. That's the ISX. -
UPDATE;After cleaning the system and flushing everything, my mechanic found oil, now I am waiting to change my oil cooler. now after 6 days he told me the Head is leaking ,now he thinks what we can do ,I am tired of waiting and nothing is moving, what do you think is the best what I can do. Can I drive if the Head is leaking a little, or should I fix the head ?
