I totally agree with you Bricky. The T/A normally has a bunch of kids light on experience, requires a lot of time even for minor repairs, and SEVERELY overcharge for the level of skill they possess/service they provide.
I also agree that as a small businessman, I would prefer to patronize other small businesses (provided they do quality work at a fair/competitive price).
I am going to do a shameless plug for a shop that I used this weekend. I was referred to them by a friend who had them do an in-frame on his truck. They did a complete inframe on a Detroit motor and also replaced all 6 injectors for my friend at a price of $7300 out the door. I had them replace a rear main seal in my W900 and since they had the tranny and clutch already out to replace the rear main, I also had them throw in a new clutch. I got to their shop at 11:30 am on saturday morning, they started it about 1:00 pm and stayed until 9:00 pm to complete the job. The total bill was $1187.78 out the door.
I would and will recomend Gilbert and his crew(brother, son, nephew) at Total Truck Repair in Dalton,GA. They are located at exit 326 off I-75 just east of the Pilot truckstop about 1/2 mile east of the interstate. If any of you guys/gals are passing through north Georgia, give them a try. You won't be disappointed. They are "Good People".

I saw something last month I hope to never see again. A driver pulls into a shop and his truck smells like something is burning. Well, turns out he only gets it serviced at T/A shops and the last few times it was serviced, they failed to check and fill the rear-ends. The smell was burnt 90w and the guys rear end is toast. You could smell this for days after, even when they tried to clean it off. The guy had to have a u-joint, new gears(I believe) and I think something was messed up elsewhere back there. All this because T/S don't double check their "mechanics" work.
