Life After Roehl

Roehl drug their feet on my verifications too. It has already cost me thousands of dollars.

 

My boss got me a different truck. Just started driving it this week. After getting all the vinyl graphics i chosen for it put on. Got rid of the pos prostar he had me in. Some sucker will buy it at the auction at the end of the month.

New truck rocks though 9400i with a twin turbo cat engine. We are in our slow time of the year and iam still makeing more than i would of at roehl.

turned in the Kenworth on Friday, start back in industrial maintenance at a small local place this week or next.

 

Welcome Jeep. Almost everybody on this thread is happier than they were working for Roehl. I didn't realize how frustrated I was working for them until I wasn't there anymore and didn't have to put up with all the micromanagement. Now I have nightmares that I'm back there working with an E log and a safety department that won't make the changes no matter how justified!

Roehl was once a great company to work for even as a veteran driver! It's still a great company to start with and an even better one to leave! Find something better! If you have a decent driving record it shouldn't be that hard! Most of us on this thread have done just that!

 

I worked with Roehl for a few years and finally made the jump to get out of the truck driving industry. I didn't really have any problems with the Roehl. The people were nice for the most part, and their equipment was very nice. It was just that I was working an awful lot of hours and not making much money. Life was basically passing me by. I'm going to start another job in a couple weeks that will allow me to be home every night.

I left Roehl on good terms and I would recommend them to anyone just starting out in the trucking industry. They taught me how to be a good, safe driver. They are a good place to start, but not a place where you want to stay too long. I probably stayed longer than I should have, but I have no big regrets.

I have been gone since September and don't regret it. The hardest part has been figuring out how to make Landstar's available loads fit with what we want to do. I started to figure it out last year, but then my wife quit her job and took over load planning and dispatching. She had to learn a new job and a new industry so in some ways we went back to ground zero. I think we have figured out what is going to work and we are seeing the income raise back up. The key has been to look at what you keep and not just what you make. When I was a company driver with Roehl the 7/4-7/3 worked well. I had a small child at home and consistent time with the family was important. She grew up, life changed and so I needed a more flexible schedule. Additionally it was time to move my driving career forward and so I became an owner operator. I found with the way Roehl did things I needed to stay out 3 weeks at a time in order to make money. Now I am with Landstar and find that they don't have a lot of freight moving on the weekends. I have also found short loads pay the best. So we are stacking up short loads that can be picked up in the afternoon and delivered the next morning. To this point it has kept me within 300 miles of the house and through the house on the weekends. It's funny, but the loads I refused at Roehl we look for now.

 

Big difference between CPM and % pay. Changes are coming to Roehl's o/o program..

 

Hi to all ex-Roehl but especially Preacher Man. Left Roehl last April (2014) and went to Schneider Choice. Didn't regret leaving Roehl. After my Mom died in August, I decided by January it was time to sell the truck. Sold in Jan. Tried 2 off road jobs that just didn't work out. Now in a company truck, still with dry van, for the small (20 truck) operation that my late husband drove with for 13 years here in the home town. Truck is 1 mile from house. Out Mon thru Fri at approx 2500 miles a week. Home every weekend. Pay middle of road but the benefits can't be beat. Hopefully will be getting a new truck in the next few months. Unfortunately, it will not be as good of a truck as I had as an O/O but it will be another automatic and most importantly I don't have any payments. Enjoying a paycheck that is completely mine.

 

Thanks for the update TexasPhoenix; had not heard that your mom passed away last August. I knew she had health problems and caused you to spend a lot of time in the Dallas area. My sympathies to you in the loss. Glad to hear it's going well even without that slick Volvo you owned! I, too, am doing a M-F gig out of Dallas of 2400 miles a week with a 200 truck outfit. Not great money, but it's right for my situation in life. All the best to you!

 

Well, 7/3 was my real Independence day.
It was end of my two week notice at Roehl. My reason for leaving, they throttled my miles back far enough to starve me out. The Midwest board has lost somewhere between 9 and 15 drivers in last month and a fleet manager from what I hear.
That FM, was my FM...and he truly sucked. I averaged weekly settlements of 250.00 with him for 6 weeks. I didn't want to leave, but he killed my faith in Roehl. I just felt like they ceased to care.
I requested a new FM and/or transfer to dedicated countless times. No answer any time.

I left for a local company back home. Larsen Trucking, Greenville MI. Been treated better, and got more comfy equipment setup. Miles seem to be here. Been out of WI for two weeks now. Seen NC for first time....ran in and out of MI several times. PU'd and delivered out of Grand Rapids multiple times. So I now know there are tons of loads back home....so don't know what Roehls excuse was for having tough times getting me home....
So far happier.
