I am going to begin with saying that I hate DAT load-board. I live here in California and the inbound here sucks. I been using a dry van which is not prudent equipment to be using here in California. My question is how do I know the rates? If I want haul reefer to Texas how would I know what to offer. Coming back from Texas to California I know the rate will lower because it's a inbound to California. Why do some brokers offer such a low rate on Dat?
How do I know my Rates?

Brokers get away with offering low rates because there's a good chance someone will come along and take it off their hands because they have no idea what their operating costs are.
If you're looking to haul in and out of CA it's possible that your operating costs could be over $1.60 a mile before you figure in your wage.karma123 Thanks this. -
do you think brokers offer better rates on other load boards ? ))))) So Cal was good for dry vans last three years. this years is bad almost everywhere nationwide. If you live in cen-cal or nor-cal change your trailer to reefer. Now no load board will tell or show you rates. you need to pickup the phone and call brokers.

I'm a bit confused, if you don't know how much it costs you to run, then asking how to figure the rates for that lane is rather useless.

What load board offers better rates? As for finding the rates...phone skills pay the bills.

on my load board I subscribed and get the lane rate index.

I know my cost, but I am confused at rates for loads.

I agree 100%
Doing something for the same number as the status quo may not be in your best interest. Figure out what your cost per mile is, add in what you want for a profit, and that is the number that you should be running for.karma123 Thanks this. -
Yeah I have that too... but the brokers never give the amount shown in the index..

Never take what they first offer, always neg. for the highest rate possible.lzgny Thanks this.
