I'm not sold on signing a contract paying for the OJT training but I ran across a craigslist ad for Roehl today. It said they'll pay students $500 a week to get their CDL through their school. I saved the ad in Word format but didn't know if I could post it here without violating something inadvertently. Anyone else know of this? Are they still charging for the school? Even if they are the $500 a week cuts the cost down a lot.

My son is looking into doing the same thing, and I've been helping him. Look into Knight transportation, they will do the same thing but according to their information on the website they do not require you to commit for a year or two. Be very wary of companies who want you to commit for more than 6 months as there is usually a reason why they want you to commit for a long period of time...usually cuz they suck. The old adage applies, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do your homework. This is a good place to start.

Are you based in arizona ? Spoke to the phoenix recruiter, yes it's $500 a week but you have to be an arizona resident.

I called Roehl on Thursday, I asked them the same thing. I asked if I could pay for school up front. She said, no I don't have to. Training is free. But you do have to sign a contract, to drive a x amount of miles for them. If you quit before you drive the required miles, you pay them $3000.00 dollors. To pay for the time and trouble of training you. They don't want you to just go there, to get your CDL and bolt... I am from Wisconsin, I called Marshfield.

Hey freenow I just got my paperwork today from Roehl. I payed for my CDL out of pocket and they want me to sign the contract for 75,000 miles also.

Yes, she told me the same thing. She said I would burn that up in a little over a year. If you decide to leave the company before the 75,000 miles are up, you will have to pay for your training that they spent on you. The only other thing I could do is get my CDL, from a private school, and hope someone would hire me. Plus fork out $5000,00 dollors or more for training. So with that being said. I can understand Roehl doing that. Thats crazy what happen'ed to you. I was told I don't have to pay up front, for my schooling. It was free! WTF!

Yea dude I just printed it up and it says:
"Also you promise to repay to Roehl for the value of the SJSTP, the sum of $3,130.00, which Roehl has expended for payment on your behalf for the SJSTP."
They state that Roehl will pay my lender (for my CDL school loan) which I payed out of pocket. So I wonder If I would get a better deal if I waved off the 1500 smackers and told them they did not have to reimburse me for my out of pocket payment on my CDL.
