42k w/out experience? That's def on the low end for hauling hazmat / bulk chemicals. Im pretty sure most would agree with that. It's not so much the money, but the sacrifice of being OTR for that amount of money..Also, the 6 preferred days...Not the truth. You have to stay out 2 weeks minimum and then take 3 days off. You cant work 3 weeks and take 6 off.
Just not worth it too me. But everyone is different. Schneider has a lot of false advertising. I knew I would not make 72k first year with Bulk, but come on man, 42k?

Ive done 3 weeks out and 6 days off with no issues. I normally run 11 out and 3 off. No idea where you got that info from.

Also most guys running tankers at other companies are averaging ~2400 miles a week, no need to run tons of miles like van guys because we make more per mile and accessory pay. Btw i had 3300 miles this week, so running more is possible.

I got my info from my recruiter who I've been talking to for a month, today was our discussion on pay. I don't think SNB pays great cpm., start at .37, then .41 after 6 mo. Not too bad but not good enough to justify the commute. If you could avg. 2500/week then that would be a different story. Don't know what terminal you work out of but she was quoting miles out of Savannah. To those who havnt heard recent cpm most companies are starting out @ .40. McElroy (.46), Covenant (.44 w/ hazmat), TMC (.40). All of these offer accessory pay in addition to cpm. I'm not bashing Schneider just advising recruits of recent information provided to me. BTW I was told you CAN NOT take 6 days off per month.

So to understand, you are relying on word from a recruiter vs. A driver actually working? Thanks.

Well i dont know why you're quoting cpm from non-tank jobs. Regardless, Most people come here because they want a career in bulk, and having a year of tank vs van is alot more valuable when applying to the better paying tank carriers.

first of all if you really think covenant is better than Schneider bulk then I don't know what else to say.... And I can tell you from experience it's best to go with Schneider bulk if you're going to start out they trained very well you will learn how to do chemical tankers very well and you could always move on later on down the road but Schneider bulk its not a bad outfit to start with

First, if you believe everything your recruiter tells you, I have 100 acres of ocean front property in New Mexico I will sell you really cheap.

I'm based out of the Houston OC. We're not running anywhere near 2500/week. But, I can tell you that I was hired at .39 cpm, and in my 2nd week, we had a bump in pay to .41 cpm. We also get $25.00 for all live loads, and $35.00 for all unloads. I've not done one live load, or for that matter an unload yet and I've been driving for 2 months now. So, I'm getting paid for work I'm not doing. It's true I've had to monitor the air compressor a couple times and check for heel, but that's about it with regard to unloads.

Another thing; how much you work depends on your attitude. You go in expecting and demanding, and you'll get nothing. You go in with a positive attitude and offering to work anything and everything; you put up with the undesirable moments, the breakdowns and layovers in a polite manner without being ####y, and you'll get loads. I had to do a 34 hr restart in Charlotte on 5/20 after doing back-to-back runs from Houston to Cincinnati and then from Cincinnati to Spartanburgh, SC, dropping the empty in Charlotte. It's true I waited another day to get a load and that it took 3 messages and two phone calls to XOps, but I got a nice load; bobtailed from Charlotte to Riceboro, GA to pick up an intermodal and take it to Savannah, then bobtailed to Jacksonville, FL, pick up an empty and take it to Baxley, GA the next day for a live load, then take the loaded trailer to Mill Hall, PA. Not a bad run; is it? I then got to bobtail to Keasby, NJ, picked up an empty, took it to the BASF plant in Bayonne, NJ to be loaded and then down to Marston, MO. Then, I got to bobtail to West Memphis, AR, picked up an empty, went to Memphis to get it loaded the next day, and drove to Dilley, TX to deliver the product, then took the empty back to Houston. Got to Houston yesterday afternoon. Now I'm taking 6 days off.

Figure out the miles. Every time I get loaded is an extra $25.00. Every time the customer unloads, I get an extra $35.00. I don't have to hustle to get detention, or layover pay; it gets added automatically.

Yeah, the trucks are slow and underpowered, and getting over the mountains takes some effort, but all in all, it's a pretty good gig.

About the only complain I have about Schneider Bulk is the constant "technical difficulties" Xtended Ops tends to have on weekends and after hours when you have to call, and the unreliability of the Navigo GPS that's attached to workflow. But, once you learn how to get around both of those, you can actually get what you ask for.

Same here. Doing 6 days off after 3 weeks out. I go back on the 11th, and I already have time off approved from the 19th to the 22nd of June.
