I have been driving for 9 months now and have noticed a lot of pain in my fingers and hands. It has increased to the point where I can't make a fist or open a bottle of water. Has anyone else gone thru this? Some background, I am 45 years old, and spent 22 years as a chef before becoming a driver. I am a large guy 6'5" and about 295 lbs. Is it the way I hold the steering wheel? I try to switch hand positions frequently but it doesn't seem to help. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Stop spanking the monkey lol. But seriously, could it be carpel tunnel from chopping all those years?

I think the only thing to do is go see a doctor.

I don't think it is carpal tunnel, probably feels more like arthritis. My thumbs and wrists are the most affected. But my knuckles on all my fingers are very tender to the touch.

In the mean time when not driving keep them elevated as much as possible. Also be careful how you hold t he steering wheel (avoid flexing wrisk while holding steering wheel).

DO NOT touch the shifter if your not gonna shift. Vibration will cause you hand and fingers to swell. Hold the wheel with just your fingers not resting your hand on it.
