I bought a Stryker 955 HP from a friend it was 2 months old, after using it for 3 months sometimes when I keyed up it would only show 40 watts of output power. I could gently tap the radio and it would go to full power. Then without reason I keyed up and the SWR meter jumped from .5 to 3 and it stopped transmitting and receiving and shows only 10 watts of output. After checking the SWRs with a meter, they are fine. Can anyone help?

I bought a 497hpc stryker. I seen to many bad reviews on the 655, and 955.

Could be a short in your coax, your mount, or antenna. Could be something inside the radio. Does the 955 have the AWI (antenna warning indicator)? I believe it automaticly shuts the radio down when s w r reaches a certain level.

The 955 and 655 both have a swr warning. You must have the data link and go onto the computer download the Stryker software then you can adjust the limit the radio will transmit before it shuts the radio down.wade9233 Thanks this.

Doesnt it have a preset swr allowance from the factory?wade9233 Thanks this.

Yes, but I can't remember what it is also it depends on if the shop changed it when they converted the radio if they converted the radio.wade9233 Thanks this.

Thanks guys as mentioned in original post, the SWRs are good. It has to be something shorted out or stuck inside the radio.I am using a Uniden in its place right now with no issues. As I mentioned before this happened I lost alot of output power and would have to tap the radio to regain full power. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and knows what the solution was.

Your output power will drop when swr raises to high levels. That's why I suggested maybe a short in your coax. Tap the radio, maybe it moves the coax at the rear of the radio just enough to work for a while.
But, since you're running another radio with no issues, it must be something inside the Stryker causing problems.
My advice would be, find a good tech, preferably one that does stryker warranty work. Those radios are a little more complex than a run of the mill cb, I wouldn't let just any ol truck stop hack touch it. Jmowade9233 Thanks this. -
All export radios are notorious for bad solder joints. That is my first guess since tapping on it makes it work right........might also be just a meter problem.

Thanks guys... off to the shop it will go. I will post the results as soon as I can find a trustworthy tech.
