Newbie here. 2010 Prostar. The problem began at a rest area, I tried to start the truck and it wouldn't turn over. The voltage was over 13. I asked around, and some helped with hitting the starter a couple times with a hammer.

Before this, I smelled a burning oil/electrical odor for quite some time, one and off, didn't think anything off it, cause this truck is sketchy rigged all the time.

So after the rest area incident, was driving and not paying attention the the volt meter, I hear the warning signal and my volts are at 12.

Long story short, been driving for 2000 miles with the volts fluctuating, and getting drained ### soon as it charges up some. Replaced the alternator, replaced a burned wire from the ignition switch to the starter, been to 3 different shops, checking 4 different times and no one can find the problem. When it sits, the alternator puts out normal volts, and the batteries show normal too.

Something somewhere is draining the power, but can't figure out what. Maybe a short somewhere or something? Need help, 2500 miles left to get home.

Did you check for loose connections?

There were a couple loose connections on the starter, but they were tightened up at the first shop, problem still there.

So you know the screwdriver trick in case you have to turn off the truck and it won't turn back on?

Yes, but it starts now with one try after the wire was replaced. It just doesn't charge up to 14V anymore. When it does charge up, randomly, it doesn't go past 13.3ish. Then it gradually drops back down. I have to stop so it doesn't go into load shedding.

Yeah that's the solution. If it doesn't work beat it with a hammer. LOL

New revelation. I did an air leakage test, and that drained my volts. Talked to a guy, he's saying it could be a bad brake module? That would explain the rise and drop when I'm driving.
