I've read good reviews on the 955 but be sure to wire that straight to the battery as that will give you 70+ watts of power .

If you don't care to mail your radio to a tech, I know one of the best. PM me for contact info.
(I just realized I don't know how to PM somebody on this new forum!!!!!!!)

So long as it's not "hacked and jacked" it's 10A on AM, 15A on sideband. Mine does perfectly fine on my 15A factory wiring.

Same here asked Walcott Radio when I bought mine about direct to the battery and he said it doesn't need to be.

I do have it wired straight and I'm peaking according to the meter around 100 watts

100 watts indicated on a 955? Leaning towards hacked and jacked. Get it on a scope and a spectrum analyzer to be sure.

    wade9233 Thanks this.

Is hacked and jacked the same as peaked and tuned?

These are 60-70 watt radios. For it to be "keying 40, peaking 100" my guess is someone butchered it (i.e. "hacked and jacked") and if so, you're not actually transmitting 100 on-frequency anyway. I would get it to a good tech (who has and knows how to use the requisite test equipment) to be checked out thoroughly.

mike5511 knows a good one, and I do as well. Google Rodehog Communications, or Fine Tune CB Shop.

    wade9233 and mike5511 Thank this.

From what I've read 60/70 watts pep is right for one 955
