Now hear me out.
Werner has what best fits MY needs.
I want to run MY region ( New England )
I want to unload trailers and stay fit ( Dollar Tree you stay fit )
$5 k sign on bonus paid out over 12 months.
$7 k tuition reimbursement paid out at $100 per month for length of employment
36cpm with fuel and on time bonus can make 46 cpm
Xxx per trailer.
With my hustle, and willingness not to run home every weekend I can make $1k a week easy which is a $250 per week increase in pay over my current pay.
$32 week for medical / dental with $700 deduction. ( my current job is $50 per week with $2k deductible and no dental )
They said they would do their best to be flexible about hometime when I wanted it. That means if I stay out for 4 weeks, they will do their best to get me home for 4 days. Not saying it can always happen, however that word flexible goes both ways.
My cureent job without overtime is $37, 440 a year for 40 hrs a week.
Granted I will be out in a truck, living my dream, working more hours...
With the sign on bonus and hustle, I could see north of $50k my first year out. Plus the $1200 I won't pay thie next year on my federal school loans.
Plus the reduction of $18 per week and $1200 less deductible on health insurance, and I will gain dental.
What is so bad about that?
Why do so many people #####?
No, I'm not a recruiter. I'm an informed person with real world experience in the trucking Industry.
I got a nice pay raise, better benefits, oh and I don't need to pay rent while I'm there if my girl decides she likes living in the truck. No kids. Sounds like a fair deal to me for a first year apprentice.
So I think I'm going with Werner

Best of luck to you.
Shaggy, 77smartin, TruckDuo and 1 other person Thank this. -
It is what you make of it.
TruckDuo and BostonTanker Thank this. -
Thank you.
Like I've said, if it don't work out I come home and drive a trash truck for 23-25 hr plus benefits. Who knows, I may enjoy the ride. Won't know until I go on the journey we call lifeTruckDuo Thanks this. -
That's as good an attitude as any to have.
I would ask however that you at least read the words of those who made that journey before you. It would be regrettable if you made this decision uninformed. -
I have. I've also talked to some drivers actually doing these dollar accounts who have been at werner for years.
Some of the other recruiters just wanted to rush me off the phone and know when I was coming in for orientation. When I explicitly said I was calling for information on their companies. One company offered me 2 -4 weeks for training. Wouldn't stay on the phone long enough for me to inquire about benefits, any detention pay, per diem pay, stop pay, etc. Made sure I knew I was being paid 45 cpm multiple times though. Another recruiter was on the phone with me for less than 5 minutes then they had to go. The recruiter for Werner? 5 phone conversations, email correspondence, double checked anything she didn't have an exact answer for. She's spent over 3 hrs in 2days working with me. Even if she was faking the whole time, she never once rushed me off the phone or asked how quick can I get to an orientation. She understood I was putting in my 2 weeks and would most likely need them to train new guy. The company that is paying 45 cpm is only a 400 truck outfit. However with his hastiness to get me on a plane, and not listen and answer my other questions, 45 cpm doesn't tell me the whole story either. -
I could go to Western Express

Although I have a clean record and mvr..I may be disqualifies based on those alone
Polarbear25 and TruckDuo Thank this. -
Well, one thing is for sure, if your navigation and backing skills are not adequate, you (and Werner) will find out fast. If you make it through the few months solo on DG dedicated in New England without being fired for too many incidents, you'll make a good driver.
I respect your commitment and attitude. Now all you need is to prove your skills and patience and you'll make a good trucker hand. When winter months first arrive, you'll discover a whole new set of problems.rachi and BostonTanker Thank this. -
I hope I can back up lol. Hopefully that 9+ years in the wrecker industry helps. I didn't really get into what type wreckers I ran. Started years ago on a f 350 60" wb and last operated a twin screw k whopper with 40 ton boom, oh, and tinkered with the 5 axle k whopper rotator ( crane ) lol. Hope a 53' trailer with a condo don't ruin my career lololol.

Oh, and why did you mention snow? I think I saw a pile still melting today. Jeesh. Lol
