I can't tell you exactly how it is done but it is one of the parameters that can be altered to suit the end user's needs or wants, i.e. the same as changing the cruise set speeds, speed limit on the truck, how the cruise switches work and so on and so forth. It is usually done by a dealer for whoever made the engine.

or air cooler

It's not and never has been anything that could be changed by any dealer on an electronic CAT. The fan comes on at 217* period, end of story.
truckon, Diesel Dave and lester Thank this. -
Yeah if the intake temp hits 161* the engine fan comes on also. I would imagine a W900 with dual air cleaners this only happens during the day but with a T600 and single air cleaner it can happen on a long pull on a cool night.Last edited: Jun 8, 2015

a lot of people think the temp for the fan can be changed. it cant. the fan coming on at a cooler temp is usually the result of ecm modifications. I will bet it is coming on sooner as a result of air temp going in to the engine.

it CAN be changed . I have changed many times on series 60 Detroit by using DDCT ( Detroit Diesel Calibration Tool ). its not ecm modification.
