I go to orientation in 2 weeks for OTR driver . how many miles do u make a week. And if I want to eventually transfer to regional tanker will they let me??
-
On the choice board we're contractors so we pick our freight.
As a company driver you can expect to be around 2400 miles until you gain experience with sni systems them you should be able to run 2800 to 3k.
As for transferring you will need to be in current job for 6 months then if opening comes available and your qualified you apply and can transfer.PNW_transplant Thanks this. -

I'm pretty much set to start OTR orientation in 3 weeks in Harrisberg PA -

You can drive endlessly if you wanted.. the loads and drop and hook freight is there.
Choice isn't about miles being you're on percentage.
You could do two short loads in a day and do 350 miles at $2 all miles and earn the same after fuel vs doing one longer load driving 550 miles at $1.40 all miles
350 miles at $2 is $700 / 350 miles at 7.2 mpg times $2.7 per gallon = $131 in fuel or $569 after fuel costs
550 miles at $1.40 is $770 / 550 miles at 7.2 mph times $2.7 per gallon = $206 in fuel or $564 after fuel costs
350 mile driver will have more on-duty hours left over and less driving means less maintenance also.
But 350 mile driver will require more planning and more can backfire on him.
Then factor in what markets you are driving into and what they have to offer vs the pay you're going in their for.
Also factor how much more time the short loads will take you vs hammering it out.
List goes on and on or really the choices go on and on
