yep, that's why i'm happy that i'm done with foodservice, you said it all, "recover a little". 3 days a week off, I never did anything on my extra day off except catch up on sleep and choke down aleive tablets. and im 30 years old, and not in that bad of shape!
on the plus side, you can eat whatever you want, and drink whatever you want, and not gain a pound. all the guys I know that got out of foodservice for an easier job pack on 30 lbs because of the eating habits you don't have to have when you move 7 tons a day.

You got that right. The worst day of P&D is better than the best day in foodservice.
On the other hand, I am grateful for my four years of experience in that regard, because it made me realize how good I have it where I'm at. And after all those crazy deliveries, I'm now at the point where if I can't back that sucker in there, it can't be done.
I've had other P&D guys say "I can't believe you got that in there!!"
"Dude, four years of foodservice."
"Oh, yeah--that makes sense."

When I enrolled at truck driving school they asked me where I wanted to work and I said "Well I think GFS, Mains or Northern Haserot Brandt would be fine." The guy then stopped and looked at me as if I was nuts and what happened I ended up at GFS.
You know it's funny though I got into this because I really wanted to be an OTR driver and even though I knew it was a long shot I called Decker from Fort Dodge, Iowa as my first company, but they said I didn't meet there criteria, they were nice about it though.
Another driver at my yard said he used to work for BTC he said to me "Yeah I loved going OTR, but you get married and have kids, you end up having to change things, and that's how I got in at US Foods and then gravitated over to GFS."
I do sometimes wonder why I am not in the LTL field, but the company that I work for, there's a lot going on and I kind of figure stick around long enough and I could probably get on transit or do the grocery stores which is like the absolute best job to have in the entire company, 4 day work weeks, 2-3 stops a day, it's mostly driving, 65K a year the unloading is just dragging pallets off the truck.
Food Service trucking is strange it sucks you in, in this odd sort of way well, I guess it's more of just doing what you know. I fight a lot stairwells each day and all sorts of goofy things.Shaggy Thanks this. -
Our trucks top out at 62 miles per hour.
