I am in the planning stages of switching careers, from GOV work to driving. I have to make this transition smartly, pay some debt, save some money and sell my home here in San Diego and relocate to another state. I am looking at relocating to a non-income tax state (Washington, Nevada, Wyoming or Texas). Of course earn my CDL. Are there companies that hire new drivers with security clearances? If so do they pay any more than other's for inexperienced drivers?

Doubt that clearance will mean anything unless it's for a job driving for a govt contractor hauling sensitive shipments and a new driver isn't getting one of those.
I came to trucking from aviation management at the senior level with every sensitive emergency access level clearance that the FAA, TSA, FBI and DHS offered. They meant nothing in this world.
Those clearances don't translate or transfer very well if at all into the real world. The only thing all of that government vetting and checking and clearing and granting did was give me something that looked really good on paper and a very quick callback for interviews.
No matter where you go in the trucking world if you need a clearance for anything you'll have to go through the vetting / clearance process all over again. -
There is few companies that require drivers to have security clearance such as, Boyle, TSMT, secured land, aatco.
But do they hire new drivers i doubt it, but surely worth give it a try!

Want to get looks at the air port? Use your TWIC card for ID!
The card says you can use it at air ports for ID but they don't know what it is.
Heck you get it thru TSA and they are TSA!
Yes I did use it and 3 people had to come look at it before 1 said it was OK to use and I could go.
And yes I still had to go thru X-ray and shoes/belt off pockets empty.

That's because they want you to give them more money for a Pre-Check which is the same thing.

There's a great job if you qualify. The job is with the Office of Secured Transportation. It's with the federal government and you become a federal agent once you finish their training. They really don't look for drivers that are experienced because they prefer to train themselves. However, they do look to see if you're are fit and in shape to fit the job. Some say they make a ton of money and some say they don't. I can tell you from past experience that they go in cycles. They list their base as somewhere around $50,000 to $80,000. But that is base and I know they make a killing in over time. You might have to relocate to either NM or TX but don't pass it up when it comes along. It is part of the government but not like the standard civil service work. You'll be armed and a federal agent that gives you a huge responsibility. Just search under OST ALB NM or the DOE.
