I worked in the beer delivery business for 7months. Prior to that the soda business. Both straight up SUCKED! I got tired of being treated like a POS by the jerks that own the bars and the @$$hole managers at convenient stores thinking they were my boss. I decided to give driving a break and went back into sales (retail )only to realize this sucks even worse. After starting this job I received a call from the local LTL company in my area. I haven't set up the interview yet,but plan on doing so this week. I just don't want to jump into something I may hate, although the better money compared to the crap i make now would offset it if I didn't care for it.

I recently went from Beer to an LTL, overall it's much less work. Bump a dock, drop your crap and leave, do that a bunch of times then pick crap up. Picking up is slightly more involved but 1000 times faster than even a fast check in doing beer. Seems to be much less stressful so far. It used to take me around 30-60min to check in 3-5 pallets doing DSD, and my company double dipped and had drivers merchandise their last stops. What I do NOT like so far doing LTL is the later starts in the day. I miss my early AM start times. Also, since I'm new and have zero seniority at my terminal my start time changes daily, which I really see no need for, it's the way they all work, but still don't see how that makes any sense whatsoever. But on the plus side I work M-F, get overtime after 8hrs/day cheap benefits, a 401k and a pension. So I gotta focus on the positive.

    Dodgeman Thanks this.

Monday starts my final week as a beverage hauler. I start with Spee Dee delivery running a night transport run on the 27th. The pay isn't quite comparable to some of the big names in the LTL game but it is considerably better than what I was making at Dr Pepper Snapple, and it gives me good experience if I want to move to one of those other company's in the future.

    jlembie35 and Mike2633 Thank this.
