All the large fleets will end up around 62 is my guess. It really depends on the gearing of there trucks. I know that Centrals trucks are set up so that with the 3.55 rears they have the sweet spot is at 13.5 on the tach, that is right where they are at 62, and they are noticing more of a savings than they expected. They had thought they would get about 3/10 from the drop. but they are saying many trucks are averaging .5 or more gain in mpg.
It is not about the driver retention anymore it is about survival. These company's are paying more for fuel now than payroll. Whatever they can do to cut down on costs they will do. Or they will go under.

Has anyone really did the math and see what you're loosing? If you take a driver that's at 30¢ a mile and he drives 11 hours a day he'll lose .99¢ after 11 hours if the the truck went from 65 to 62. If it went from 65 to 63 then he'll lose 44¢. If that amount really hurts you then maybe you should look at other areas where you can save money.

I know! When costs go up we can pass the expense on to the drivers! Let them help pay for the fuel, instead of those that pay for the freight.

This is exactly why all of the "turned down" companies are still driving the low freight rates. Shame! Go ahead and drive that turned down truck and see your paycheck shrink. Prove that you could still earn what you did before.

Fuel jumped in price before. The economy adjusted. It will happen again. In the meanwhile, please keep to the right, ok?

And please spare me the line that the Big 5 are doing their part to keep inflation down. Yep.

####...I was promised a flying vehicle by now. What the he!! is going on with this podunk world?
