A friend of mine has a felony methamphetamine posession charge on his record from 8 or 10 yrs ago. Kicker is I think his probation just ended a couple years ago. If he goes to CDL school, is he stuck with the usual suspects like Carolina Cargo, or is it far enough behind him at this point to open doors with better companies?
Opportunities for guys with felony drug posession charges?

There's a bunch that will. 8-10 years is above the threshold for most carriers. Ask him to go to company websites, they usually have a breakdown of these things. Many ask that felony drug arrests be 5-7 years old.
david123abc Thanks this. -
Good, I was hoping the just based it on date of conviction and not the end of the sentence.

Here's a site with companies that hire felons and the length of time from conviction.

Cool, thanks. I'm going to send him that link tomorrow.

It looks a little dated (Still has Lester Coggins on there) but because of the "driver shortage" he'll probably have an easier time.

To my understanding, most companies go by the "conviction date", however they may also ask what the sentence was and how long. I would say most would consider the situation case-by-case. Now as for as getting a student loan with a drug charge.....NOT LIKELY

Maybe it would be helpful to get his probation officer to draw up a letter.
Assuming he had court mandated regular drug screenings, the letter could shine light on his stunning reversal from felon to productive member of society, from drug user to shiny clean new penny, ready to turn the corner on dark chapter of his youth.
Realistically speaking; he should get some 3rd party proof of what a good boy hand been and be clear that he cannot work for a carrier that needs him to cross international borders and he may not be bondable.
I've heard that Western Express is one mega company that hired felons, whether that's true or not. Getting security clearance, TWIC card for access to ports and military based may be out of the question right now.
If his career takes off, maybe in 5 years he can petition the state to expunge his record or seal the conviction or something. -
i recently got s weed possession charge in Ga. I also just purchased a truck and applied at AIS in Atlanta Ga as an O/O the guy said I'm automatically denied employment bc of drug conviction. Please let me know of any container companies in the Atlanta area who will let me lease my truck on despite the drug conviction.

How recent if less then 7 years you will have a very small chance. Have you ran your MVR since your charge?
