I'm on the B-T Inc. reefer side of Decker. I'm not to sure exactly how the flatbed division fully works, the drivers I have talked to had good things to say, but pretty much tarp EVERY load unless you get specific directions not to tarp it. Pay is supposed to be pretty decent and opportunity to get home every weekend or every other weekend if you choose. Not to sure on all the lanes they run, mostly Midwest and south, I know I have seen them out here near my house lately. The part I can help with is they tend to take great care of the equipment whether you need to get through a terminal for work or need it done on the road. Supposed to be starting in cab scanners now for scanning and sending BOL's, I haven't received mine yet as I haven't been through a terminal for over 20k miles lol.

as a office person and part time driver here at Decker I am really happy to hear all these great comments. I know we do try really hard to make this a good company for drivers. But as with all companies its not for everyone that is for sure, but we do the best we can with what we have.
As for BT this is a company that we bought back in 1986 and we keep it under the umbrella but seperate as they do a very good job at what they do. More of a laid back operation than the Decker side is, same equipment and pay for either.

I drove for BT back in '05-'06, based out of their yard in LeMars and still have a number of friends driving there. They have there own shop, office, planners and dispatchers and the outbound loads are usually ice cream from Wells Dairy in LeMars and then everything and anything on the back hauls. About the only crossover I had with Decker corp was the use of their yards for fuel and sharing trailers. BT does have that small compnay feel about it and I was treated with respect and always kept moving. The equipment is top notch as are the staff to support you. I have seen some complaints on the board about Decker and I will say this, they like professional drivers that do not need to be baby sat and micro managed. Do the job, look after the equipment and be on time and you'll enjoy BT or Decker.

I was just looking at the Decker site re:starting pay. It says .33-.35 including .08 per-diem. Does that mean .24-.28 + the per-diem?
I'm currently at .40 and even with Decker West lining up with what I'm looking for in everything else,it sounds like a huge pay cut. Anyone knoe what their health premiums are? Thanks

Notez are you still with Decker & liking it? I appreciate what you've posted so far. It would be nice to hear some more recent info (good or bad) about Decker as I am considering them.

Sorry I haven't posted in quite a while. Life gets busy and in the way...LOL!

Yes, I'm still at Decker and enjoy my job tremendously. There are good days and bad but for the most part they keep me moving and always respond to complaints and criticism.

I shattered my elbow in February from falling on the ice while fueling the truck in Missoula, MT. I needed surgery to replace part of my elbow with a permanent prosthetic and was off for three months on Workmen's Comp. Decker was fantastic dealing with my work related injury. I spent three days in a hotel in Missoula while going to doctors and then Decker flew me home to Michigan. They monitored my recovery and made sure I was taken care of which really made me feel like family.

As to the pay questions, there has been recent pay changes. Flatbed was given a .03 cpm raise this month. Reefer is getting pay raises September 1st. These raises were to bring us more in line with current industry averages and to offset new HOS rules that seem to be cutting into our miles. In addition, there is other accessorial pay that they don't publish public. You're paid when you have the trailer washed out and of course layover and detention pay. The detention pay differs from customer to customer depending on their contract. Also, fuel bonus is paid quarterly and very attainable. My bonus last quarter was over $200.

The equipment is top notch and they are meticulous about maintenance. Trucks and trailers are serviced every 10k miles and fluid changes like clock work on time. Decker takes pride in their fleet and it shows with new equipment arriving monthly.

Also, Don & Dale Decker are accessible if you have issues, concerns or questions. You can't usually say that about companies this size but they take the time to address all issues and treat you fairly. If you hear differently then I'm sorry to say this, but the driver is not telling you the whole story.

Oh and the question about health insurance is best left to HR. Decker offers many varied choices for health insurance coverage.

He no longer works at Decker. I'm friends with him on Facebook.

I don't remember why he left, but he's with a local company in Michigan now running curtain side.
