they would do that where they do the physical. is he on metformin or something else, what exactly was his a1c number. I keep mine undercontrol well, the reason I said retest is at .1 thats rather close . it difficult to lower the a1c very quickly , that 90 day avg is tough to do, on a simple glucose test no problem. I suggested a retest simply because of the close result, another could easily come in at .1 under. fact is, if he is on meds and he is that close on a1c., diet has to come into play or meds need changing, something isn't working

just cut out all carbs and his a1c will drop quick. Get his medication adjusted. .1 is not hard to bring down, drink lots of water, that lows blood sugar levels, no soda, all of that crap. its actually not to hard to get it down that much.

my levels were a tad high too. I've reduced my carb intake, by a good bit and cut out sugar. I also take two cinnamon tablets a day and that helps too.

Drink only water. Eat salads with light dressing. Sugar drinks will drive that count up quick. My first A1C count was crazy. I got the number cut almost in half in 6 weeks. I ate salad and cut out sugar drinks. For .1 I would think drinking water should knock that down pretty fast. Good luck

Here's some research on the subject: this is one vitamin: Alpha Lipoic Acid.

    Saudi Med J. 2011 Jun;32(6):584-8.
Effect of alpha-lipoic acid on blood glucose, insulin resistance and glutathione peroxidase of type 2 diabetic patients.
    Ansar H1, Mazloom Z, Kazemi F, Hejazi N.
    Author information

    Abstract
    OBJECTIVE:
To examine the effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) treatment over a period of 2 months on fasting blood glucose (FBG), insulin resistance (IR), and glutathione peroxidase (GH-Px) activity in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients.

    METHODS:
This study took place in Motahari Clinic, Shiraz, Iran, which is affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences from May to October 2006. Type 2 DM patients (n=57) were divided into 2 groups to receive either ALA (300 mg daily) or placebo by systematic randomization, and were followed-up for 8 weeks. After an overnight fasting and 2 hours after breakfast, patients' blood samples were drawn and tested for FBG, 2 hours PPG, serum insulin level, and GH-Px activity.

    RESULTS:
The result of the study showed a significant decrease in FBG and PPG levels, IR-Homeostasis Model Assessment (IR-HOMA index) and GH-Px level in the ALA group. The comparison of differences between FBG and IR at the beginning and at the end of study in the ALA treated group and the placebo group were also significant. (...in a good way)

    CONCLUSION:
This study supports the use of ALA as an antioxidant in the care of diabetic patients.

    Next: my own view:

Working under a clock. Simple: Buy a 40lb sand vest. Then run intervals between telephone pole lengths...rotating at each pole...run, walk, run. (try) 10 pole running segments lengths. Then go walk 880 steps & return home and sleep. Next day repeat. On the day of your physical...wake up early and repeat this routine. (eat only a protein shake low in sugar and/or oatmeal.)

Diet: stay away from refined sugar products, focus on low glycemic foods, when eating Oatmeal...use honey. Use a low sugar whey protein shake after your exercise.

He really must watch everything that goes into his mouth to lower that blood sugar.Lots of good advice here already so I'll just add a few more tips...

1-Drink Only spring or distilled water + add a little lemon juice(this helps to put the PH level in balance) Doctor advice to drink 8 glasses a day is correct for diabetics, type 2, which is what he probably has, don't let it get too out of control or it becomes type 1 which he will need insulin shots for & probably never drive again
2- He absolutely MUST take a 20-30 minute brisk walk after eating to help digest the meal. Also cut down on the size of the meals, better to eat 6 small meals than 3 big ones.
3-The longer food stays in the body the more toxic it becomes. Does he burp , fart or get heartburn? He must stop eating fried, fatty & salty foods like are sold in truck stops & fast food places .
4-Buy some kind of constipation powder with psyllium in it to help pass the food through and take it every night for the next month following directions .If he still can't #### in the mornings at least twice, he's not digesting properly & retaining too much toxic foods; his body is inflamed on the inside.
5-At least 3 times a week after his last meal he should try adding some spurts of fast running into his walk.
6-Buy a blood sugar meter and start testing himself. Walmart has them cheap maybe $15-20 for the meter + test strips another $10-15 depending on amount of strips. Approximately 1 a half hrs after he's eaten he should take a blood reading, that's when the body really gets into the digestion process. If there's a high reading he will know that the meal he just ate was not good for him. I'll guarantee it will be high if he ate anything made with white flour. One saltine cracker will spike it way up even more than sugar if he's allergic to wheat!
6- Better to buy wholesome fresh veggies (not fruit) and steam them rather than to eat out very often. All commercial food is laden with bad oils & chemical preservatives & colorings which can cause more damage than good. He must stay away from processed foods premade in boxes & soup cans.Try steaming some fresh brussel sprouts & green beans then sprinkle it with some salt free herbal spice, not margarine. He needs to stay away from trans fats too as much as possible & has to start reading the ingredient lists noting the sugar level, the amount of salt/sodium levels & trans fat levels.
8- for best results learn as much as possible about eating low glycemic meals and curing his body inflammation & diabetes. Good Luck!

-Don't eat anything the day of the test, not even water.

I've been told by friends who has that problem that exercise is the best thing for it. And several have been exercising and never had the problem again.

Once mine was quite high and found out that steroid shots I had received caused the blood sugar to go up. I gotten 3 or 4 steroid shots that year because I have many problems in my neck, and they help a lot. Since them I believe I've only had one for I do not want to get diabetes and my blood sugar has not been high since.

The bouncing of the trucks can cause drivers to have neck & back problems. Last year I decided to try a chiropractor that my daughter had recommended . The adjustments worked while at home but after a few weeks out rolling again, the pains would come back. After seven tries during the course of seven months I finally came to the conclusion that nothing could be done to permanently fix me as long as I was bouncing in the truck. . I'm not driving now and I have no more pains (except if I try to lift something heavy) I'ld rather be pain free & quit OTR. Don't keep aggravating your pain with steroid shots, it only can get worse.
