I start CDL school next month and I'm looking for my first my first job... I've talked to the recruiter about this job but I'm not sure about the pay structure. He said it starts at .37cpm and $15per stop but there was something about short hauls that I didn't get...
Can someone tell me what it is like to drive this account? I live 45minutes away from the DC so would I get any home time other than the two days off?

plus short haul pay. shorter runs on a scale 0-50 , 50 -100 etc net you more per mile on a comparable scale to help make up a days pay.
forget what the exact scale is other than 0-50 is a flat $25 and 150 - 200 is .02 cpm extra. think it runs up to 250 or 300? cant remember.
Walmart acct will work you and use up your 70 hr clock with usually only 34 hrs off on the weekend to restart you. Pays better than most though. No topuch freight BUT the driver has to account for each pallet coming off per store on his paperwork. while this is work preformed it is unpaid other than the stop pay, which pays from the second stop on. -
Recruiter says I get two days off in the middle of the week...There is also a 'Dedicated Flex schedule' that the recruiter says would allow me to choose what days I want to work with the only requirement being that I work one day on the weekend... how does that compare to working strict dedicated position other than the days off? Why wouldn't everyone choose Flex if they can choose days off? Might the pay or benefits be different?
-
dont know, other than guessing that flex would possibly limit the miles per week possible.
for that location, how many miles a week are they telling you?
What I do know though is the Wintersville Oh and Washington Courthouse Oh locations are generally 34 hrs off. Unless some things have changed. -
2000miles/wk +/-, .02/mile qtrly bonus, .39cpm at 6mth and 40.5cpm at one year.... also said something about $30 if I do a backhaul? -
not sure about the backhaul part. most SNI guys are pulling walmart reefers. so unless it was FOR that Walmart DC I doubt there is much of that. Never know though. NOt heard a whole lot about that particular Pa DC.
What I can say though is , you will see steady checks and you will have work. SNI has a shop/office building with some driver amenities. usually though ,at least the ones I have seen , leave something to be desired.
overall I would say not a bad gig for a driver to get their feet wet in this industry. Also the potential is there to transfer to other accounts or divisions, such as tank.
I would suggest getting all available endorsements now while you will pay for the license once. Maybe wait on the hazmat as I dont see that account needing that endorsement. -
Wow, it is amazing that you say that. I do have Tanker and HazMat endorsements and would like to work for a particular local company hauling Fuel but they want 2 years experience. The only Tanker position with Schneider is 2 hours away from me or I would try to start there.
The Schneider Choice option is also interesting but I can't imagine doing that without experience.... and is a dedicated Walmart acct good experience for understanding how to be an IC? Soooo many questions.... -
Unless its a regional dedicated position , I'm not sure how walmart might help other than managing fuel consumption.
One thing at a time. Get hired and start driving. -
LOL I hear ya!

Working "Flex" is working as a part time driver. You tell them when you want to work and how many hours you want to work. If you only work 1 day a week, it has to be a Thursday thru Sunday. If you plan on working more thats ok, but if not it has to be one of the weekend days. Your pay is all activitiy based. Your mileage rate is incredibly low. Don't know what it is in Bedford, but in Wintersville it is 14CPM. You get regular stop pay, and it's almost 100% of the time when you work a weekend, you'll get what the run pays plus and incentive pay...which is usually an extra $50. That's what really makes it worth while is the incentive pay. Otherwise, you could work an 11 or 12 hour day and end up with $70 or $80 take home pay. You could make that workin at Sheetz. If you wanna know more about Walmart, send me a message here. I can help ya out with that.
Best of luck!!ognik Thanks this.
