If there is no reason to cheat, why do so? I don't understand why someone would intentionally falsify their log book in order to "save hours", or how that same person will then go on to complain about the "unpaid" work that he does.

Work smarter, not harder...and get paid for what you do.

2000 miles/week is more than I typically run. If you're paid for what you do, there is no need to put those miles on the truck. As long as you're giving away your time logging "off duty" when you're working, your boss has no incentive to pay you for that time. I can't think of any other job where a worker clocks out, continues working, and expects to be paid for that off-the-clock work...yet that is essentially what you are doing.

I get paid for what I do, and I log my time doing it.

Wow, this thread just keeps getting dumber as it goes... I never have a 2000 mile week, or even a 2500 mile week. If I can't run 3-4000/week, I won't stay out. And yes, I get paid for what I do... Duh! $0.49/mi and a penny for having Hazmat.

You guys can try and make fun of us old timers all you want, but we know the business way better than you do and we can run circles around you youngsters! We know how to work the dispatchers, planners, shippers and the system in general. I would never expect you to understand...

… It's still turned into a pissing contest a few pages ago though.

Having a 2300 mile week is not uncommon for me, however 2 to 3 hours of every load that I pull is spent on duty unloading my trailer at the shipper.

If I worked weekends and had the hours to do so then I probably could easily reach 3000 or higher. It's your ship, pilot it how you will and log it how you will.

Long as you're running legal, doesn't really matter how many miles you get an a week? Especially if you're happy with the job you do?

Saying that a local driver is part of some "new breed" is asinine without the infomation. I have been driving for most of the past 24 years and I have several million miles under my belt. When I was OTR I ran the same way that you do. I would not waste 1 minute I did not have to on the clock, and I would run every hour per day I could. Not just 11 driving with about an hour on other things I had to log. I would also run the other 2 hours on the drive line, and I did run out of hours on day 5 some weeks. Just how the loads lined up.
    Easy math.
Nobody says that you can only drive 11 hours in a day. They just say you can only drive 11 hours in a shift.
Local, I run what I need to run on the clock. Some weeks I do not use all my hours, some weeks I do.
And I can work day 6 if I want more money. I am home every day and I do ok on income. Sure, I could make another 15-20k if I was OTR again. But that is not what I want or what my wife wants right now.
But trying to make some stupid assumption of a driver not wanting to work is way off base. Because unless you own that truck you are not making as much more than I am as you think.

You seem to imply that I haven't been at this very long...and you'd be wrong. And if you're bragging about running your ### off for $0.50/mile, like I've been saying, I prefer to work smarter. I typically run 1100-1600 miles/week and clear more than you do in 4000 miles...AND I'm home every night. Needless to say, you don't impress me.

I can pee further than you!

    I can pee 1000 miles a week!

Oh yeah? I get paid to pee 500 miles a week...

    Really you two?

Started out as a pretty good thread... I don't expect you all to stand around holding hands and sing kum-by-ah for pete's sake, but who gives a crap?

Sure, newbies whine and complain... "I'm outta hours, I can't run anymore so I can't make money!" ...when is this new? It's no secret. She's your ship, run her how you want. You can't fix stupid.

And for those of you who don't know what I mean when I say, "pissing contest," you can click here. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pissing+contest
