i am from California but moved out right before they started the emissions crap I currently truck in north east corridor nj ny pa... I am wanting to move back to Cali but I own a 96 truck that I redone myself worked really hard on the truck customizing and what not. I want to move back for my families sake but don't know if I want to buy a newer truck and get into payments again and not know how the trucking industry in Cali is at the moment anyone know how it is... Is there money to be made there? Is it profitable? Is it worth me buying a new truck just really confused cause I know my wife wants to move back for our kids and all my family is there but it means letting the truck go that I put hard work in. Unless Cali changes over night there laws please any in sight would be great thank you.

Yes, there is money to be made in cali. Why not buy used like a 2007. That year and up will have all the emissions you need. Or, you can get a aftermarket dpf put on your current truck for around $15,000.

Your truck might be out of compliance due to year. Check the arb.ca.gov web site. Lots of info.

For your 1996 Model Year truck, you will need to install a DPF to be in compliance with CARB.

Why not work out of Phoenix or Vegas? Cheap flights home.

Nevermind, just saw you're looking into local.

Depends on the year of the engine. It may have a 1995 engine which is legal through December (at which point it must be replaced with a 2010+ engine -- a dpf retrofit wouldn't be legal).

If that truck is your baby, why not buy a wrecked '12 and put that engine in it?

He may as well run his older truck at that point.
