I've owned my truck for about 3.5 years.

About 2 years ago I was DOT iinspected and he asked me where my dash ABS light was at. I just told him I had owned the truck for a couple years and i've never seen the light....maybe it's not equipped.....it's an old truck. Anyway, it worked. He didn't write me up for it.

I'd like to get my ABS going. Everything is there, so far as I know. I just don't know if it works or how to check.

Can anyone tell me where to even start troubleshooting?

    Thanks,
    Toby

Have you checked if the ABS ring and sensor is on each wheel??

I have not. I do know that I have the wires going to each wheel.

I hear some clicking when I turn on my key. I heard somewhere that there was a way to listen to those clicks to determine if those sensors are working properly. Any idea how to do this?

Thanks for the response...I've been scratching my head.

    Thanks,
    Toby

I'm quite sure that it is. I have some others out too. I need to determine which light is the ABS light and insert the new bulb.

    Thanks for the help.

If you use a flashlight at the right angle, you'll be able to read the indicators to see which one is the ABS. If you can't, you can remove that panel and take out 1 bulb at a time and shine a flashlight through the hole to read them.

If you don't know if it's working at all, you should check that first. Do you hear the modulators clicking when you turn on the key? With the truck aired up, engine off, hold the brake pedal down and turn on the key. Brake pressure will make the clicking a louder chuff noise. If it's not doing that, the ABS is not powering up and going through its self check.

If you get no clicks/chuffs when you key on, check that the fuse is good and has power. Let us know what you found after those checks and we'll figure out the next steps.

Should be the Bottom or Top one one in the middle of the Speedo and Tach area IIRC sorry been 17 YEARS since I drove a Pete. Another one is the Parking Brake light and the Last one has the Wheel Spin Light. I know weird setup.
