There's a shipper I just came from Friday, they need to do something like what you're doing badly. In the daytime it's impossible to see what's inside of that door.

Your only guides there are the trailer next to you and the edge of the outer door. You can just barely make out the pads on either side when you're back far enough in so the building casts its shadow.

    G.O.A.L city at high noon...

One of my regular pickup locations has a east facing dock that is almost impossible to see into especially in the afternoon, but the yellow guide line they have makes it relatively easy. Still a little eery for me to back up blind.

Have thought a number of times about installing some White Knight backup illumination, or similar. Would make things a lot easier there, but also in some truck parking lots.

Put lines on the ground, make them perfect. And also, put little beacons on the edges of the dock deck to know if our trailer ends are centered

So I've scheduled sealcoating for the yard and the tarmac that's the floor of the lower part of the dock, and line marking as well. I'm going to get the glass bead type they use on the road. I started taping and spray painting lines which isn't ideal but it'll be good as an experiment before I get the real lines put down. It'll also allow me to try things out and maybe make some minor adjustments before it's go time on the permanent solution.

I also painted vertical lines on dock for the guys to hit (black line on white dock) and positioned cones with reflective tape. We're going to play around with this for a week and get feedback from the drivers. If it's good I'll put conspicuity tape on the dock in place of the vertical lines and the line-marking should be pretty good.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I really appreciate it.
