OK first off the van division of this company will be going under at the end of July, but the antics they pulled are worthy of note.
If you would have asked me a year and a half ago this was the place to be, we got choices, we had miles, we could just run and not have to worry about opression from the management, that was until management changed. The new safety director, who shall remain nameless, was brought in for one reason, to be a total jerk, and ruin your bonuses any way he can. The position used to be called driver services/safety, but the driver services part was dropped. Here is some of the crap this scumbag pulled....... He fired a driver who was there for 17 yrs, for being 15 mins off on fuel, as not to pay him a big severance, yet kept a driver that had 2 log violations, put out of service at a scale and a 1/10 on his sensortrac score. He started qualcomming logs without notice, which was never done before, just to take away bonus money. He is a jerk to talk to in the office and hard as hell to get on the phone.
The operations vp is a total "jerry's Kid". First off he will walk over a dollar to save a dime. We got DOT'ed all the time because of dirty trucks, because he wouldn't pay for truck washes, and they don't pay me enough to wash my own truck. He had a 1000 watt inverter rule. He would put off all major maint. until the last minute, and then when your truck was really in need of major repair, you would be told to take it back to the terminal, which is cheaper, but it was a total crapshoot on whether you would get there or not, and chances are you wouldn't, thus spending much more money on road repairs.
The dispatch system was simple and effective, you were out east you would call so and so, and out west, you would call so and so, and so forth....these were the load planners that you called, and it worked. Well they got the bright idea to change to a one dispatcher system like most places. Well this added another layer of incompetence to the system. This made things hard to do, caused more tension between the driver and the shippers and receivers, due to the fact that we couldn't call the places we were going to and try to get earlier appts or tell them we were late and why, which we used to do.
Summed up......you can't get a job here anymore anyway, and maybe it's good that you can't.
